I need to move the cross bar on my 2023 Honda Odyssey a few inches to fit a roof basket. I know that the holes for the cross bars into the side rails comes pre-drilled from the factory. Has anyone tried to drill new holes into the side rail and what did they insert into the hole to hold the screws for the Cross bar?

I am partial to buying/using USED Thule feet and crossbars. I would recommend a set of Thule 450 Crossroads with 60 inch square bars (old school), or a set of the Thule 450R Rapid Crossroads and a pair of Thule Aeroblades ARB60 or Thule Squarebar evos (150 cm) or even Wing Bar EVOs (150 cm). The squarebars slide through the 450 crossroads, whereas the top part of the 450R rapid crossroads slide in the slots on the underside of the Aeroblades, wingbar evos, or Squarebar evos. Both crossroad versions have a rubber coated stainless steel strap that wraps under the side rails and holds the feet snugly.

The 450 crossroads were discontinued a few years ago, but the 450R rapid cross roads are still current stock. All of these can be found 2nd hand for much less than retail on Craigslist, eBay, as well as Facebook marketplace, or occasionally at thrift stores.

I removed the OEM crossbars when I bought our van so I could have more flexibility in crossbar position/spacing depending on what I am carrying.

Yakima also makes great products—over the years they have had many different feet that would attach to raised side rails. Yakima also has a few different crossbars which use various mounting adapters.

Frankly, I found that the choice between Yakima and Thule products was similar to choosing between Toyotas and Hondas. It was harder to figure out the different trim lines/options/packages of Toyotas/Yakima than Hondas/Thule products.

Am sure that others in the forum will have their suggestions/experiences with other brands as well.

UPDATE: After researching adjustable cross bars, considering the costs and lack of quality used ones in my area, I decided to use my existing fixed Honda cross bars and move them.
I had to move the front cross bar 6 inches. So I marked where the new holes needed to be, drilled holes, inserted rivet nuts, and reattached the cross bar. My roof rack basket is now attached and I am ready to roll. Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions.

Thanks for sharing your solution. Embarrassingly, this is the first time I've heard about rivet nuts. Learned something new via your post. The OEM cross bars on our 2019 EX are too close together in my opinion. I might move them further apart using your method.

Thanks!
