This is the short ram intake I made for my 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L. It was made using an extra EF Civic intake tube, AEM filter, and a Vibrant silicone coupler and clamps. I came up with design and mocked it up and then had it welded up at Slick Motorsports.

I don't really know if it did anything for performance or fuel economy, but it sounds great. It has the typical sucking hiss when you goose it, a nice deep growl when you are under load, and a cool little honk at shut-down.

True enough. I measured the underhood area in a number of locations (where Ody owners have installed aftermarket intakes) using a digital K thermocouple thermometer & probes, and the coolest inlet location is the stock OEM setup.

I think most people are after a "better sound". Throttle response may be somewhat quicker, but you'll be pulling in warmer air anywhere else other than the stock inlet.

BTW, the location where your inlet is located was the warmest I sampled. Other locations more forward were barely a degree warmer than stock; that one in the farthest aft portion of the engine bay was a couple degrees warmer. As you can tell, there wasn't a huge temperature difference, but the name "cold air intake" is a misnomer for many of the other setups.
