I've noticed that as I'm driving I see different colored areas (orange where a mall is, dark green for a park, blue for water & light green for a golf course).

Nowhere in the NAVI manual does it tell you what these colors mean and nowhere in the manual does it define some of the icons that appear. This is frustrating to me as I saw this weird red icon on the map (wasn't the hospital icon) that looked a bit like a sailboat. I tried to move the joystick over it and click, but it only gave me a street address (same problem I have w/ the colored areas). I then tried to put in that address to see if it would return a business name and no dice either.
Anyone know how to get information about either (a) the colored area..it would be nice to move over the river & get the name of it! or (b) the little icons? I can get eating places names by moving over the blue 'fork & knife' and clicking.

Also, if you haven't searched by 'category...advanced' you're really missing out! There are tons of categories in the NAVI (think yellow pages) that are not listed on screen and you can find just about any type of thing you're looking for based on a keyword.

Yeah, I've wondered the same thing. Let us know if you find a "key" that explains the symbols.

I wonder if Alpine or Navtech would be a resource for this info.

Still haven't found the 'legend' for the NAVI stuff, but this is really intersting:

http://www.navtech.com/data/accelerated.html

If this is true; its possible Honda will offer an update within a year or 2 that provides detailed coverage for the whole US!! That would be cool; and the only thing that would convince me to spend $150 on an update DVD.

Oh, and the NAVTECH site mentions that *ALL* in-vehicle NAVI systems in the US and 9 out of 10 worldwide use their technology. Is is that much more accurate than other GPS systems? (I guess maybe for travelling, having the gas station icons, food icons, etc. are pretty cool..do other GPS systems offer this?)

Here's something that looks *similar* the legend colors on the NAVI...its not exactly the same...I can't believe there's no legend in the owner's manual!
