Hello,
I am new to the forum. I have 2001 Honda Odyssey; I need help where to find cheap remote and key for my van provided with instruction on how to program the key and remote. I think my son threw it the trash. So now I only have one set left. Thanks.
By the way this is a great forum for people like me.

The cheapest way to get a new remote is probably eBay. You can get one there much cheaper than at the dealer. Instructions on how to program it are on this site (actually you program the car to recognize the remote.

As for the actual key, I think you may be stuck going to the dealer. The keys have the immobilizer chip in them, and they need to be coded correctly.

Hi,

I recently bought both a remote (ODY 2000) and two keys on eBay. The remotes go for about $30 (as mentioned above), and the keys for about $25. I followed the instructions referred to previously to program the car to recognize the remote - piece of cake! As for the key, if you ask around, you may be able to get it programmed for as little as $5. I got that deal at a (ready for this?) Honda dealer (widely respected) in my area! If you ask around various dealers and locksmiths, you'll get widely varying quotes on keys. The dealer nearest me wanted $95 for a remote control fob, and $90 for two programmed keys. (Gee, why didn't I go to them?????) At any rate, ask around BEFORE you buy a key from eBay, so that you'll know where to go for programming as soon as you get your key blank. When searching in eBay, use "Honda Odyssey" (no quotes) as the search terms, and tell it to search both in title and in description.

Good luck,

Pseudolus

If that is in fact true, then that would be the easiest option. However, when we bought our Ody, my dealer quoted me the $95 price for replacement remotes. I guess I could try to negotiate the price if the need ever arises...

Hang on. I said "the new key costs $25 at the dealer, including programming". The remote transmitter is another story.

The dealer wants something like $128 for the remote transmitter. If you can find it cheaper (like I did), go for it.

So if your dealer wants $95 for the remote transmitter (and that's probably a deal from the dealer), how much does he want for a new key, cut and programmed to your car?

I called my local dealer and you are right. The dealer only charge me $30 for the new key and programming. The dealer here also quoted me a $110 for the remote. I am bidding for the remote on Ebay. Lets hope I'll get it.

Sadly, this is the way it is with all dealerships, for all makes.

It never truly "pisses" me off. I just go to ebay. Makes me wonder why you didn't in the first place for your remote key fob.

On the other hand, try a different dealer for the key itself.

$45 is about right for the key. They cut and program the key for that $45. I'd get the FOB on the bay and get the key at the stealer.

:)
