We are going to be taking delivery of our new, 2011 Honday Odyssey, Touring, Black with Grey Interior, later this month. Had a couple of questions that I needed some help with.

  1. Has anyone had any luck with downloading audio book files to their Nook or Nook Color and getting them to play through the stereo system?
  2. Can the DVD player play videos off of an iPhone or iPod?
Thanks for your help.

And if I posted this in the wrong place on this forum, dvpatel, my apologies. I am a brand new Odyssey owner and just joined the club, so excuse my ignorance at the outset. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

1. You might be able to get your Nook to be integrated with the USB in the glovebox. However, if the Nook has bluetooth you can stream the audio to the stereo wireless. Otherwise, there is an AUX port where you can connect your Nook's audio/headphone out. The only negative is you have to control everything from the Nook as opposed to the stereo.

2. The DVD player only plays standard DVDs. It does not play any Bluray DVDs or other sources. However, the Rear Entertainment System (RES) can accept external video sources via the HDMI and RCA composite jacks in the third row. Depending on where you want to have your iPhone/iPod located, you might need an extension cable. I use this Apple A/V composite cable for my old iPod Classic and it works fine.

Gstom1,

I have thee exact same Apple cables and tried to get the RES system to play a movie off my iPod touch. The video shows up, but I can't get the audio to play. I was using plug in headphones connected in the third row. When looking at the rear source menu (EX RES) I saw a high lighted AUX Video selection, but the AUDIO selection was grayed out so I couldn't select it.

Can you help with what I might be doing wrong?

When I get a chance, I'll bring some headphones and try the same thing to see if I have any issues. I've only tried my iPod videos once and I had the audio playing out of the speakers.

Shazzam,

I tested my iPod Classic (6th Generation) with the Apple dock a/v cables on the 3rd row RCA connectors. I connected the cables to the 3 RCA jacks and also plugged in a power adaptor into the outlet. I flipped down the RES screen and set the source to AUX-Video.

I tested a movie, TV show, music video and music only. In all cases, everything played fine. Video on the screen was fine and audio came through on both the wireless headphone and a wired headphone that was plugged into the 3rd row jack. The battery on the iPod was also charging as it played the videos.

So, I'm not sure what your problem might be. Would you happen to have the sound disabled or perhaps there is a problem with the cable outputting sound via the RCA jacks? Is there a setting on your iPod Touch that need to be enabled? Is there sound when you watch the video on the iPod Touch itself?
