Noisy Firestone Affinity Tires

My wife's 2000 LX has about 22,000 miles. On our recent short road trip, I noticed that the OEM Firestone Affinity tires have become very noisy -- you know, the rumbling sound. I have rotated these tires according to the maintenance schedule and both fronts and rears have worn evenly. Have others noticed this? If the noise continues to degrade, I'm going to have to get new tires earlier than my usual 40-50K life. Are there alternatives other than the Firestones (never again) or the Michelin Symmetrys?

We have a 2000LX with 27K miles and the OEM Firestone Affinity tires. Ours have NOT gotten a noiser.

Although they are noiser because we drive faster now (a cop has to have sympathy if I have a screaming two year old when he pulls me over).

We just got back from a the holiday road trip, and as usual the tires on the concrete highways are really noisy.

I would like to replace the tires around 40K or next summer to a nicer tire. I hope to do new rims at the same time -- we will see if our cash flow changes by then.

I follow the following message thread useful:
