Someone had asked for the equivalent site for Ody's on the AcuraMDX.org forum and someone replied and called Odyclub...LAME! They recommended Edmunds town hall instead. I think they're afraid of us!

I dont fit the minivan marketing mold(Kids are gone/etc) but I still dont get this SUV ego thing.

I must admit some SUV's do have a stylish look on the outside but when I get inside they are cramped. The front window view is often restricted (high dash). The cabin is often not flexible (cant take out seats and make a flat bed area). I can camp in mine, you cant do that in most SUV's. Most people never go off road.

Many SUV's charge a premium for the ego factor.

My intuition is that they are trying to deny being associated with Soccer Moms.

In the end they should call them SV and UV because I have a lot more utility usage to mine than they do.

I wouldn't worry about the MDX club. WE have a long standing rivalry with them. Most SUV buyers suffer from a diminished self image to begin with.
I would be angry too if I paid $17000 more for a smaller less versatile vehicle with the same drive train as the Ody. That must be one heck of an all wheel drive system that will never get off road.

Don't sweat it. I don't.

OdyClub.com is a product of the forum members. It's not a take it or leave it kind of place. It's sorta like a suburban soccer bus barn raising. It's not perfect. It's not in-your-face slick. You have to admit though, it's comfortable. Egos are checked at the door.

And dang.... that webmaster... he's the best, huh?

Just like you said, it's the people here. Period. I'll continue to visit here all the time, just for that reason.

And if someone doesn't want to hang out here, that's OK. Everyone's got the right to make their own choices, and associate themselves with the people they want. But personally, I choose Odyclub.

Peace.

Isn't it odd how people feel compelled to look down on any group other than their own?

I guess something must be wrong with me cuz I just don't understand it. There's no way I have anything against someone just because they don't value the same things I do.

Sounds like the root of a lot of familiar problems, doesn't it?

I respect and support their right and desire to do their own thing. I would hope they'd feel the same way.

Just call me naive.

I agree this is a great site. I'm still a member at www.newbeetle.org even though my NB is gone. I feel "at home" here and there. Just a bunch of nice folks helping each other out.

After reading the first few posts of this thread, I thought I'd take a gander at acuramdx.org. Those folks have got major chips on their shoulders! There was one thread started by a lady recounting an experience she had at a gas station when a bunch of teenagers mistook her MDX for a minivan, and she had traded in her Odyssey to buy the MDX. She had ordered crossbars for her MDX to make it look more like an SUV. Desperately sad, not becaue she wanted her MDX to look like an SUV not a minivan, or even because she traded in her Odyssey, but because she took some off-the-cuff comments of some young kids who didn't know better to heart. Tht's one lady who needs to re-examine her priorities - she's getting way too caught up in style over substance and the false promises of product marketing.

Wow, that was quite deep for me...!

You get my drift. Lots of stuck-up folks there. I coulda bought an MDX but it's not big enough for a growing family and our stuff. By their standards I'm a soccer mom on a cellphone all the time.
Stereotypes work both ways...

I don't get it.. most of the "soccermoms" that would (should
) be driving minivans are driving SUVs right now.

So, doesn't that make the SUVs the soccermom vehicles now??? Aren't all these image-sensitive people missing the boat here?

Used to be when I saw a minivan, I'd think "family." Now I see an SUV and I think "family in denial."

I never see an SUV and think "Welp, that's definitely not a soccermom... must be rugged outdoors-y type"

oh well.. guess I'll never understand them.

And that's a fact. You see quote after quote in the news from people (women, almost always) saying, "I just didn't want to look like such a mom. That's why I bought the SUV. Minivan just screams MOM."

Yeah. Uh-huh. Like the three trolls you're constantly toting around don't scream MOM. I always wonder what these people are thinking...

Now there's a good choice! IF, that is, you want to have your posts deleted and receive e-mails threatening to revoke your membership whenever you happen to mention another enthusiast club, product, service, or web site (other than anything related to Edmunds, of course).

Man, this site is anything but lame!

This is a one-stop-shop for any and almost all information Ody-related.

Additionally, as was mentioned several times before, the people here are great and are the real success behind this forum.

Great picture, Maugham! Hope it doesn't give the SUVers any ideas about where to take their vehicles 4-wheelin' in the 'burbs, though.
And as for this image thing, I figured out the day I put a car seat in my Trans Am that I'd lost whatever "cool" I had, so now I just buy and drive what suits my needs as opposed to my image.

I also have to ask...when did being a "Mom" become such an embarassment to one's self? I would think for the moms out there driving mini-vans, it's yet another badge of honor to be seen on the road and have people saying, "There's another soccer mom".

Let's see, the ODY or an SUV? You get "legitimate" 7-passenger seating inthe Ody instead of some little jumper seat that you have to be a gymnast to use. The Ody allows you to hide rear seat and/or remove middle seats to get a huge cargo area. The Ody is much easier to get in and out of and doesn't require a step. They ride better and get better gas mileage (especially compared to big SUVs). Look, I think it would be cool to drive an SUV, but that would be it's only advantagealthough I think the Ody looks better than a lot of the SUVs.

Having hug out on several other car make forums, the Odyclub is far and away the most "adult" forum I've come across.
No wannabee's or juvenile antics. Just good info exchange and friendly people.

The only other forum I've found that resembled this one in terms of pleasant atmosphere and information value was one about home repair. That forum disappeared when CompuServe closed their forums to prior to merging with AOL several years ago.

Odyclub are a winner!

Maugham
