A guy in my neighborhood changes oil for folks and includes the oil filter and checks the air tire pressure! A guy I know had his car oil changed recently.

I inquired as to the charge for this service and the reply was $20.00

Hmmmmm, At Walmart oil costs about $17, Oil filter is about $5, bringing the total to $22.oo

How can he do this for only $20? The reply was "he buys oil by the barrel"

Does this mean a 55 gallon drum of oil? Is it that much cheaper? Can one trust oil from a barrel?

Does this sound reasonable?

No problem with oil in a drum - even Amsoil sells it this way. However, all engine oils are not equal. I would want to know what brand, series, and viscosity of oil is in the drum before I would put it in my car.
