Hi all. I'm pretty experienced working on other cars but have not had to do much on our 2007 Ody EX-L so far. The last oil change was a free one at the dealer in December. Today I saw the oil pressure light (red teapot) while driving, so I shut off the engine immediately. The oil level is OK, but I noticed that the oil cap is loose. I tightened it and restarted the engine, and the warning light is gone.

I don't think that a loose oil cap alone could cause this, but what do you think?

You're right - a loose oil cap would not cause the oil pressure warning light to illuminate. Since the oil level is correct, the oil pressure switch is probably failing. I would have it replaced. If the light comes on after that, there is something more serious to investigate.

Dave, loosen the oil cap again and see if CEL returns.
If it does, then you know that was the problem.

Update

The oil pressure light has not reappaered after tightening the oil filler cap. I will experiment with loosening it and will report back to tjhe thread if it triggers the light. Thanks to all!
