Here's what happened when I went to Costco. I looked in the booklet hanging by the batteries and saw the entry for the Honda 2019 EX as the standard H6(48) battery. When it was my turn, I told the sales rep that I wanted the H6(48) battery. He recommended getting the "H6(48) AGM" battery instead. I told him that the recommendation I read on the internet is to replace with the same type of battery to avoid charging issues from the alternator.
You have way way way overthought this and blown it out of proportion.

If what you say is true about AGM and taxing the alternator etc, Optima would NOT have had entire product lines on AGM batteries. I had installed an Optima Red Top in my 1999 Maxima more than a decade ago and it lasted me 8 years and it was still good but I did replace it.

It did NOT kill my old school alternator either.

You already got the flooded battery so I am thinking its time to put this debate to rest as it keeps popping up and the same information is being repeated over and over again about charging issues with an AGM battery. Unless you can conclusively prove that your non AGM battery ody's alternator will blow up trying to charge an AGM battery, I would not keep repeating that part.

You said you will be pre-emptively replacing batteries every 3 years and hence, the normal battery is fine for your use case and that is that. No need to drag the AGM/FLA debate on and on. :)

I thought this thread would be useful for folks with FLA batteries, who are wondering whether to upgrade to an AGM battery, to get more info for their decision.
I am not irritated. BUT. If people went back and read posts to impact their decisions, there would not be long drawn out debates on the same topic. NOT only are there multiple of these AGM vs FLA debates across all generations, there are multiple in this very generation. But. As you can see, you chose to open and have your own debate. Same way, the next person will do the same. :D

There have been many folks in all generations switching to and running AGM batteries just fine. So, that claim of the alternator dying does not hold that much water. The heat part does. There is a reason Honda put in a fan. But. Lets just let this thread die down.
