It's finally over!!! After over 6 months of fighting American Honda, we have finally reached a settlement with them over our paint problems!! However, it did take me going through a third party (BBB Autoline) in order to get anyone at Honda to take me seriously.
I had previously been given an offer of about $300 in accessories from the DSM over our area. When I tried to negotiate with him, he withdrew the offer and refused to speak with me about my problems. He said that I would need to proceed through the BBB.
Well, it appears that Honda's pretty responsive once you file a BBB complaint!! I was put in touch quite quickly with a mediation specialist from American Honda. After some negotiations, we settled on receiving a 7/100,000/0 Honda Care Comprehensive warranty and the i-VES installed in our Ody.
I'm just glad that Honda was able to agree on a reasonable settlement in lieu of painting my van or proceeding to arbitration. I had spent quite a bit of time corresponding and speaking to different people at Honda, as well as taking my van in for inspections at the dealer. It was all getting quite old!!
Needless to say, if anyone is dissatisfied with Honda's response at the service manager / DSM level, by all means contact the BBB Autoline. It's completely free, and it didn't take too much time. Just a quick phone call and then some paperwork to fill out. After that, I spoke directly with American Honda mediation to negotiate the settlement, and we notified the BBB when we had reached one. The BBB then typed up a settlement agreement and sent to both of us. Only a couple of weeks later, my van is at the dealer today getting the i-VES installed, and I should be receiving my warranty paperwork shortly!
