The exterior passenger door mirror on my 2009 EX will no longer move correctly. I'm not sure if there are any "tricks" to doing the replacement of the mechanism, or if it's a "simple" remove screws, put in new unit, replace screws. Based on prior experiences, I'm guessing I'll have to remove some wiring, needing to remove more than a few screws. Any suggestions appreciated.

You replace the whole mirror unit ( much easier IMHO) rather than just the motor unit.
Issue is, with ex, I believe it has to be the color match to the body (if you care) or you may have to repaint it. replacement itself isn't difficult, you just pop out the inside panel, undo the screws from inside, take out the mirror and I DO believe the wire harness is right there (so no need to undo the door panels).

Is it not possible to swap just the skullcap to the new mirror?

Yes, I believe so. I can't recall where I saw that. It's either here on this site or youtube. But, it was not an easy task especially if you fly blind.

First, a black painted mirror works on any color van.

Second, as you mostly only look at one side of the car at a time, nobody but you will know.

Finally, on older vehicles where the expensive factory hubcaps would fall off, I had one style on one side and another style on the other side. Nobody knew, certainly not my wife, who only knew her cars by color.
