Dude that looks great. May I ask the total cost for everything? I was thinking about the IVES but I really don't want the tape player.

Another question - Does sound play through the original head unit also? If so, how? And are headphones included?

Thanks!

Too much :-(. But I'm very happy with it, and probably wouldn't be if
I had cut corners.

Alpine TMX-R705 - $1299
Audiovox DVD-3100 - $460
RF adapter - $70
2 Clarion headsets - $90
Install labor - $300
Mounting kit for monitor - $45

I installed the RF adapter so that I can play the audio through the stock sound system,
and the Alpine screen also includes an IR tramsitter.
You can see the power switch for the RF adapter where
the fog light switch would be.

The installation labor also included installing the Honda
in-dash CD changer (which probably was simple since they
had everything else opened up).

OK. I've seen the light. Man, that is an awesome screen. (drool, drool)
So how do you like it? Picture quality? Brightness during bright sun? How about the motorization? Smooth? Fast? Headphone emitter works well? Any complaints or high praise? Any ergonomic/function issues?

Sorry for all the questions, but my interest is piqued. Great pics BTW, and nice install.

Anyone wanna buy a NIB Panasonic CY-VMX6800U?

I'm very happy with the whole system, though
I've only had it for two days. The picture
looks great, though I'm still figuring out
the mode settings. Mode 1 and 2 distort the
aspect ratio, Mode 3 (zoom) doesn't look
real good (some pixilization), Mode 4 looks
great but I would think that a widescreen
DVD would fill the width, and it doesn't.
I need to spend some more time playing with
it, and see if there is a setting on the
player that I need to change.

Bright sun is in short supply right now in the
Pacific NW, so no experience with that.

The motor works smoothly, and is faster than
I expected. The swivel is almost too fast,
it is easy to overshoot where you want to be.

The IR audio sounds fine, but my kids really
don't like the headphones. I'm glad I paid
the extra to get the RF adapter, the sales guy
tried to talk me out of it, saying most people
who put it in say it was a waste of money.

If I did it all over again, I would probably
get the Audiovox DVD-3200 or the Alpine unit.
I went with the 3100 (over the 3200) because
the specs said it was 3 mm thinner, and I
wanted to mount it under the stereo. But the
face of the 3100 wouldn't work well there, and
I decide to add the changer anyway. The 3200
would have saved me a few $$, and been a
closer match for the factory units. (The
Alpine would have looks good, too, but costs
a lot more!).

So I'm happy with the hardware, and very happy
with how clean the install was. It isn't the
cheapest solution out there, but I don't
regret the extra expense.

Just a follow-up, it turns out the player
was set to 4:3, setting it to 16:9 makes
a big difference.

hey dbw360,
i noticed grab handles above the sliding door openings in your dvd photos, and i do not have them in my canadian 2000lx. is yours an ex model? if so, can you tell me if this is an option only on ex's, or perhaps just us models. i would like to add them to my van.

Judging by the CD head unit and A/C controls, I'd say this was an EX...with leather, even!

Now I have to go check and see if my LX has those grab handles.

See what you started!

Hey Darell,
Quick question on your in-dash DVD install.
I was perusing your pics again and it almost looks like the installer used soft open-cell foam around the DVD player, not an ABS trim ring. Can you confirm? Is the DVD player very solidly mounted, i.e.- can you move it up and down in that cubby hole? Just curious as to exactly how your installer mounted the unit there...

I agree it does look like foam in the picture, but it is actually a plastic trim plate.
It has a sort of rough surface, so I think the flash reflection looks funny. The unit is
very solidly mounted, the plate just fills in
the opening. I had assumed they would use the existing cupholder bracket to fabricate the
mount, but they actually build a custom bracket. It was all closed up by the time I
saw it, so I'm not sure what it looks like inside.
