Will the db651 fit behind the factory speaker grilles, or is it necessary to purchase the db651s (shallow depth tweeter)?

I was looking at the Infinity 6022i (6.5"), but someone told me they sounded "tinny" with the factory Honda stereo. I do not want to replace the stereo so I have been looking at the Polk speakers instead.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Confusion continues...... The Crutchfield site only list the db651s (shallow depth) tweeter for the 08 Odyssey also.

Will the regular db651 Polk speakers fit in either the front or the rear of the 02-04 Odyssey?

My Ody is an 03. There is only room enough behind the factory speaker grills for the "shallow" depth db651S model. The db651 is a great speaker. If you have room in your 08, I would highly recommend them. The db651S that I installed in the 03 Ody made a world of difference in the audio quality. I am very pleased with them.

I just installed my rear db651s. The mids and base sound so much better. I still need to install the front ones in the doors.

Can someone tell me how to remove my door panels without damaging them? I have a 2008 Oddy

Thanks

You don't need to remove the whole panel just the speaker cover. edited (My removal instructions are for an 03. You should search for speaker removal and try to find instructions for an 08.)

There is a small "detent" area at the lower protion of the cover. Use a wrapped screwdriver tip and pry out. Remove the covers from the rear first and then pivot on the front and remove. The covers are marked left and right if you remove them both at the same time. I soldered the speaker adapter (Metra DW-7800SH) to the speaker for a direct quick connection. I needed to trim a portion of the rain diverter triangle for the crossover capacitor to fit. When you get the cover removed and test fit the speakers you will see what I mean.

The fronts are easier than the rear speakers to replace. I used some #8 SS screws that were 3/4" long instead of the Polk Audio or factory screws. They provide a more rigid attachment.

I didn't use any dynamat or other sound deadening material behind the speaker. One of my friend "deadened" their doors and the overall ride of their Ody is a lot quieter. Speakers sound better too. I didn't do the wifes van. She is thinking about trading hers in.

Good Luck.

I haven't been on here for a while so I missed your questions. This may be too late but here's my answers.

The s version has a shorter height tweeter. The mounting depth of the speakers are the same. I think there is a slight difference in frequency range but I doubt it would be noticeable.

The stock speakers mount with three screws. The Polk's mount with four. In the rear, I just drilled new holes. In the front, I made an adaptor using 1/4 inch plywood. They fit fine and sound great.

Do a search on this forum. There's several threads with pictures and good descriptions how to remove the panels and how to install the aftermarket speakers. The whole door panel has to come off on the '08. Sorry, I don't have any pics of my install.

I made my own harness adapters because I didn't want to cut the van's wire harness. I cut the rectangular plug out of the stock speakers. A hack saw cuts through the plastic frame of the stock speakers easily. The only gotcha I ran into was the hot glue holding the pins in place melts when the pin is heated up with the soldering iron. Not a big deal 'cuz it sets back up when the temperature cools.

Did you have to do anything in the rear? I looked at it and the grille is basically pressing against the speaker, so I am worried the tweeter of the db651 will stick out too much and touch the back of it.
