Assuming the last 6 digits in the VIN identify the production number, why don't we track them here.

Edit this message to add your user ID, production #, and model/colour in the numerical sequence:

There's a small problem using PD55's method: Though the last 6 digits are serial numbers, US model does not share the same serial number with Canada's number. The Canada model starts from 000001 but the US model starts counting from 500001.

Sorry - who knew?!
I just think it would be neat to track the sequence - anyone have an idea to do this effectively?

Are we saying the new Alabama plant is up and running and that Honda has already produced over 7,000 vans from that location? I'm confused. It doesn't seem possible.

The first digit of the 6-digit Serial Number just says whether or not the model has features for the USA (5xxxxx) or for Canada 0xxxxx).

The VIN letter preceeding the Serial Number identifies the factory, "H" for Canada.

Actually the "H" stands for Honda. The initial number tells country of origin. 2=Canda; 1=US.

I was looking at the wrong page of the "Honda Service Manual."

For the initial number, 2=Canada and 5=USA. The "H" is listed as the Onatario Plant, not Honda ("B" is for the new plant in Lincoln, Alabama, USA).

For the 2002 Model year, the VIN is described on page 1-5 of the Manual:

In the format AAA BBB C D E F G HHHHHH
  • AAA is the Mfgr, Make, and type of vehicle. "2HJ" and "2HK" are made in Canada and "5FN" is made in Alabama
  • BBB is the Line, body, and engine type, and equals "RL1."
  • C is the body and trans type, equal to "8."
  • D is the Vehicle Grade (Series):<ul>US Model
  • 0: EXL-RES
  • 1: VAN
  • 5: LX
  • 6: EX
  • 7: EXL-NAV
  • 9: EXL Canada Model
  • 5: LX
  • 6: EX
  • 9: EXL
  • E is the check digit
  • F "2" denotes model year 2002
  • G is the factory code, where "H" is Ontario, Canada, and "B" is Lincoln, Alabam, USA.
  • HHHHHH is the serial number, where "500001-" is a US Model and "000001-": is a Canada model

More than you ever wanted to know about VIN numbers (general to all manufacturers)...[Note there seems to be some variation, but I was curious, and thought you might be, too.]
-----
Tips to understanding your vehicles serial (VIN) number

They are as follows:

* 1st character- Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured.
For example: U.S.A.(1or4), Canada(2), Mexico(3), Japan(J), Korea(K), England(S), Germany(W), Italy(Z)

* 2nd character- Identifies the manufacturer. For example; Audi(A),
BMW(B), Buick(4), Cadillac(6), Chevrolet(1), Chrysler(C), Dodge(B),
Ford(F), GM Canada(7), General Motors(G), Honda(H), Jaquar(A), Lincoln(L), Mercedes Benz(D), Mercury(M), Nissan(N), Oldsmobile(3), Pontiac(2or5), Plymouth(P), Saturn(8), Toyota(T), VW(V), Volvo(V).

* 3rd character- Identifies vehicle type or manufacturing division.

* 4th to 8th characters- Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.

* 9th character- Identifies VIN accuracy as check digit.

* 10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T),
1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3)

* 11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle.

* 12th to 17th characters- Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production
as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line.

This mostly fits Honda, too. For example, my Accord starts with a 1H. Based on the post above, US may include 5 now as well as 1 and 4.
