Power Steering normal or not?

Hi. My 2005 Odyssey EX-L is getting older, so was looking under the hood while engine was running. Noticed that the power steering reservoir was bubbling. Literally I could see the fluid bubbling. The van had only been running for 5 minutes...and it was the first start of the day. The fluid level looked correct, but I never noticed if that is normal or not??

What do you think?

Also...wanted to add that we are on our 3rd Power Steering pump. All replaced by Honda dealership...

Thanks,

Depends what "bubbling" means. If you mean FOAMING as in the oil is getting a frothy head like a beer or a latte, then no. If you mean the oil is CIRCULATING and sometimes you'll see a few large air bubbles or what look to be bubbles as you look down into the reservoir from above, I think that is normal.

Oh ok. Yeah...it is just bubbles from the power steering pump on. Keep in mind...nobody is turning the steering wheel or anything. Just sitting at idle in Park.

It's definitely from circulation of the fluid in the pump. I thought it was a closed system. Meaning that fluid only...and air in the system would be a bad thing. Thoughts??

So...if normal, then all '05+ Odyssey's do this? Anyone else notice this??

Thank you for the replies!!;)

It is closed in that the level of the fluid should be above the intake and exit hoses in the reservoir. But the reservoir itself has a cap but isn't "sealed" tight per se. And you can open it while the thing is running and see the fluid moving as it circulates. Depending on how it is moving within the reservoir it can look like it is creating "bubbles" just like if you stirred some thick cocoa around back and forth. Those aren't "bubbles" of air working all the way through the pump and rack most likely.
