Just drove home our new Touring Elite on Saturday afternoon. Less than a mile down the road we heard a very loud squeak / rattle coming from the third row / cargo area.

Sound most pronounced when driving on a slightly bumpy road. I could not isolate whether the sound was coming from the rear seat or the tailgate. Definately more of a squeak like metal rubbing on something. Anyone hear anything like this / solutions? Its going to be a few days before I can get back to the dealer and its really annoying.

Bummer. Try storing the rear seats if they are up or raising them if they are down.

update

Took the van to the dealer, it was the larger 3rd row bench seat. The metal frame / hinge had a defective weld causing two pieces of metal to rub together as the car moved. Dealer had to order new seat components, willl take a week to get them. They did however give me a loaner.

My touring also has a rattle that I thought might be the tailgate. I never have the third row seats up so maybe this is the same problem. Did the shop know right off this was the problem or did they troubleshoot and just stumbled across the seat weld? Just want to be prepared when I go to the shop

Been experiencing a squeaking noise coming from the rear since day 1. Sounds like springs on a bed, and haven’t had someone with a good ear back there while driving to sniff it out. I have an EX-L but I wonder if it could be the same thing.

We have the EX RES and it is as quiet as can be. I just assumed your noise was from all of the extra equipment on the Touring. Just kidding, glad you found the problem. I doubt it was from the poor assembly plant in Alabama, Magna International probably made the interior of the van.

Our dealer had the car for 1/2 a day before they diagnosed the weld problem. They didn't seem to know in advance the source, in fact while looking for it they ended up replacing the tailgate struts / arms. Not sure why as it seemed pretty obvious to be coming from the seat--when it was folded down no noise. Totally silent now that its fixed. The dealer ended up outsourcing the repair to a local interior shop.

Safety?

They completely replaced the seat frame, did'nt repair it. Had to wait a week for the part to come in from Honda.
Did they say anything about safety of this faulty weld issue when they did the replacement? I mean, it sounds like a safety recall should be required if there’s a faulty weld on the 3rd row seats? Not that I’m a mechanic or engineer, it just sounds pretty serious and sounds like my 3rd row seat might not stay in place in the event of a crash, no? :duh:

When I was driving home after taking delivery on Monday, I also noticed a squeak from the rear. I since put the seats down but haven't had a chance to take it out for a test. I'll try tonight.

OK, let's not go crazy here. This is one weld. There is nothing to say that there are any more or that it is a safety issue to begin with. I misread the above post when the OP said the dealer outsourced the repair to an upholstery shop. It sounds like Honda took care of the problem.
