Just got my '00 EX-Nav on Saturday, with just a hair under 30k miles on it. On Wednesday I noticed that the back brakes were making a groaning noise when making a full stop. Took it back to the dealer that I bought it from, the tech and I did a road test with me driving (very cool, first time that has happened). Tech said glazing on the shoes. Put the car up on the lift, plenty of pad. Tech cleaned the brakes with cleaner and 40 grit. Cleaned the drums with cleaner. Adjusted the brakes for a stiffer parking brake. All while I watched and talked with him about other issues to look out for (front brake groan, easiest way to change the oil, etc.)

Now, a day later, the groan is back. Has any one had the same issue? What fixed it?

I am thinking about having the drums turned to rough them up a bit or just hit them with some 40 grit as well.

My brakes 'groan' everytime I touch them. I think my groan is just the hard lining and not enough sound protecion. I'm not worried about that.

I did have a problem with my rear brakes squealing at 25k. I toldthe dealer at an oilchange and they gave me new front pads against turned rotors! It started squealing again the next day. I knew it was the rear brakes, they couldn't figure it. They just acted on what others had been complaining about. Aftrer the ride with a mechanic, who verified the rear brake problem I got new shoes and turned drims. 5k later and still no squeal but I think the compound is too hard and if it happens again, I migh get shoes from another source. The mechanic said that some of the earlier Ody's had a similar problem and that was the cure for those also.

I would press your dealer for information about a service bulletin released last year about this.
I battled all last year with this problem and Honda finally fessed up about the fix.
