My 01 ODY EX (Canadian version)only two months old has been great so far. Just one problem, I often get my rear passengers who complain of a bad odor coming from the A/C vents above them. This only happens for the first few minutes then the smell disappears. Has anyone had this problem?

We have not had this problem with our EX (though we've only had it a week).

We did have this problem with a mercury tracer. I found that if you turn the A/C completely off when turning off the ignition, and then run the A/C without "recirculate" for the first few minutes upon start-up, this pretty much goes away.

I'm guessing mold grows in the system somehow, and bringing in fresh air from the start takes care of the problem. The Oddessey tends to turn on the recirculate automatically depending upon which temp you set on the climiate control so you have to turn it off manually for a few minutes at start-up.

there is a product you can buy to spray in the fresh air vent while the a/c is on and it will kill any bacteria on the evaporator.
try your local auto parts store.

Probably wouldn't help the rear A/C problem much. It only recircs inside air. You would have to spray it in the intake at the rear.

i don't remember exactly the procedure, but there is a way to burn off the mildew.

i think you leave the car running for 30 minutes (no air) and then blast the air through the entire vehicle. i think the heat kills the bacteria and the fan blows it out.

leave it running with the heat on of course.

Where are intake vents??

Can any of you tell me where all the intake vents are on a 2002 EX? The manual only mentions the vents below the front edge of the windshield. One of the posts above also mentions some intake vents in the rear (where?) and I'm also curious where the intake vent is internally, for when you're in 'recirc' mode. I have a bad case of AC odor and want to get the magic spray everywhere I can.

The rear intake on my 02 EX is on the right side of the "magic seat" well. After opening the hatch, look to the right for the vent.

There was a TSB for the Integra that stated something akin to 'Spray a can of Lysol in the intake vents while recirculating cabin air to eliminate the locker room odor on A/C startup'

Maybe not a whole can, but a lot. Note that I think Lysol can be pretty hard on plastics.

Sounds like the "Blame the Dog" scenario. But the dog is innocent.

"In a tight place like a closed car? BO getting out of hand? Are others sniffing the foul odors emitting from your body? Blame the heater or Air Conditioning system. That'll distract them for a while."

My wife compalined of the same problem. Now I keep the AC recirculation turned off, crack my window and ease off on the bake beans prior to a trip.
