I have rust in the drivers side rear wheel well. The area is between the wheel well and the inside plastic line in the van. See Pictures

How serious is this? How should it be repaired?

based on the age of that van, not worth doing much except slowing it down with a rust treatment like krown t40 or rust check.
if its really bothering you, some self tapping tek screws and sheet metal and rubberized rocker guard spray, would make a quick fix.
just be mindful of whats on the other side of those self tapping screws!

My old 2001 I gave my brother, which has now been parted out as of last month, had zero rust due to annual rust treatments with the krown t40.

suggest since you live in the rust belt, your next vehicle you should rust treat it.

The rusted area is the latch for the rear seat.
Using epoxy and two layers of 6 oz/sy fiberglass cloth I fiberglassed a 12 inch by 12 inch area. See picture of the rear drivers side wheel well. I also coated the rust with fluid film. Thanks for the advise.
