I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's odyssey (touring elite) trips the radar detector (valentine one).
Every minute or so I get a k band alarm. It's always a weak 2-3 bar signal coming from the rear. I tried turning off the parking sensors and blind spot monitors, but it still goes off. Though I thing the blind spot never really go off, they just turn off the orange indicator.

The detector seems ok too, it's fine in my other car.

Same here. I have a v1 and a passport and v1 always triggers a k band. But my passport doesn't so yeah. Idk what's going on. V1 is fine on other vehicles though.

Off topic but does it really save you from traffic tickets? In my area, most speed control is done by laser and detectors are against the law, so once it gets hit with the laser and you hit the brakes, you might avoid the ticket but you get charged with possession of an illegal device. :( I've been told that a lazer "hit" will read before your detector can warn you with adequate time to reduce speed.

It has saved me three times so far in my other car. Nothing too major I don't drive like a maniac. in fla and ga they seem to use a lot of Ka band. With lazer on very rare occasions I do get some lazer bounce from a car ahead but that's really rare.
It usually works best if you follow a 'decoy' if your the pack leader and the cop doesn't leave his radar on doesn't matter the band.

Good point about following the leader (at a distance). I didn't know that you could pick up scatter off of lazer. I miss the days of K band radar. the trips out to the lake every weekend were so short.

It has saved me countless of times. I travel fro nc to ga from time to time and all the cops around there use k and ka band so the detector works most of the time. Passport saved me the most. I don't remember my v1 saving me though since I don't use v1 a lot.

I installed the hardwired smart cord for our Passport yesterday. I immediately noticed that the sensors were setting the radar off. I tried turning them off and nothing changed....then today I drove over 70 and not one false alert. I've included a picture of the install, but the install looks much better than it appears in the picture.

Really? Which band was it? Laser?

If so, I turned the laser band off because

our 05 ody used to trigger it all the time.

It's annoying as hell so I left it off.

Saved me 3x on my way to Banff last week. I am not familiar with federal regulations re: radar detectors in Canada but in Alberta I see everyone using them openly. Calgary, Canmore, Edmonton have speed traps as well as speed cameras all over the place. RCMPs and city police are creative in enforcing them. I was told they even use rental trucks parked on the shoulder shooting
radars at fast moving cars. WTF eh!

So the good question for you since you are from Canada is, Which provinces in Canada legally allow possession and use of radar detectors?

K band is 18-26 GHz, Ka is 27-40. I *think* both the ultrasonic backup and prox. sensors are somewhere in this range, or, 3rd order harmonic

I never drive long distance without my Valentine One (had it for over 10 years, upgraded over the years). It has saved me more than enough times that I'd say it paid for itself over the years (potential tickets and insurance increases).

Where do you guys mount yours? I haven't noticed mine going off randomly. Then again, I haven't really used it much since we've only been drive local. However, my recent 2 hour drive, I did NOT notice it going off every few minutes. Mine is mounted above the rearview mirror just to the right of it (towards the passenger side). It is mounted behind the darkened part of the windshield.

That is exactly where I had a Passport 8500 mounted. Great for K/Ka, horrible for laser.

For those that don't get the alarms like teamTMS, trim level is your van?

I just had another road trip and mounted the detector everywhich way and still had the alarms.

My 06 Touring sets off everyone else's detector, as evidenced by the number of times I "almost" get passed everyday. Why is it that after the detector goes off, everyone feels obliged to slow down to 3-4 mph below the speed limit, effectively blocking the passing lane?

We have the 2011 Odyssey Touring with RES (if that helps).

We've had the V1 since its first generation. We had a V1 randomly go off for no reason at all. Sent it into Valentine and they found that the unit's calibration needed adjustments. Since it was out of warranty, they wanted to charge a fee; but I decided to just upgrade the unit at that time since it was almost the same price as the service fee. So we got a brand new unit with warranty. The V1 is great!

Another time when the V1 went "nuts" ... when my Integra's alternator started to go. The V1 seems to be very sensitive to electrical noise and voltage fluctuations. Used it once in my friend's Supra and he had a lot of "added gadgets" which introduced electrical noise to his car's electrical system and it drove the V1 nuts. Was told that some cheap power inverts can cause this.

Did you guys add anything electrical to the Odyssey?

No, the ody is stock. In the van, the v1 is plugged in via the cigaret lighter, in my other car it's hard wired.

I recently ran into several speedtraps and the V1 never went off... There is a chance the cop wasn't on the trigger at the time but it's been about 4 traps.

Anyways, I'm going on a 500mile drive this week so I'm sure I'll run into some cops then :)

Good to know about this. So far, it's only affecting the Elite model huh?
Could this be due to the blind spot detection system?

Has anyone figured out a way to mount the V1 (or Escort) to the rear-view mirror arm? I know there are a few contraptions out there but I have not looked behind the mirror on the Ody yet. Kinda like this?
http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/valentinemount.htm

We had a 350Z and a Pathfinder and I was able to actually screw special bolt into the spot where a screw was holding mirror arm trim onto windshield. I drilled a hole into the visor clip V1 holder and attached the other end of the bolt and it just hung right under the rear-view, I loved that setup.

Just after I posted the above I see the banner ad for Blendmount on here... lol

I have to measure the arm to see if one of these mounts will fit, I love having the V1 under the mirror. Now I just have to figure out how to hardwire it.
