2001 Ody tranny replaced March 2010 with add cooler and in line Magnaflo. Had clunking coming from passenger then drivers side upon start / stop. Shop could not or would not fix. When it finally stopped ,front end started to vibrate under load. Got worse and worse until this weekend.
Took 500 mile round trip and upon return while going up a 6% plus grade , front end shutter got worse and worse until I pulled off the road to check van. Got back on the highway and did 55 to 60 mph because the shutter was so hard it hurt to hold the steering wheel.
When I took my foot off the gas it was perfect and the only lose of power was me letting off the gas.
This continued for 30 to 40 miles then just stopped! I was back up to 80mpg for about 15 minutes and it started up again for a shorter time ,then intermittantly for another 30 minutes than stopped completely.
Van has 176,000 miles and is on it's third tranny.
Help.

Update, drove to work this morning, 22 miles down hill highway 70 mph. No shutter but felt slight, momentary surge twice.
BTY, my shoulders are sore from the shutter from yesterday. It is not SLIGHT shutter when it happens.
Had tires checked again and they are balanced and not seperating.

I'd start by checking things like wheel bearings, swaybar ends, and bushings are still good. If any is cracked you'll have issues.

Yeah! It was a loose lower arm and worn out inner right axle. The original tranny shop didn't tighten the lower arm properly. Road like this for 9 months. Don't know if it contributed to axle failing.

EGR Valve and port cleaning?

Extended Warranty on Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) (TSB 05-026) – 8 yrs/84,000 miles (135,000kms) In some vehicles, the EGR system can become contaminated or clogged. If this happens, then the vehicle will surge or hesitate during light acceleration and the MIL may come on with DTC codes P0401 of P1491. The repair involves replacing the EGR valve and reaming the port and installing a Teflon sleeve to reduce future clogging.
