Hy, where can I get those signal mirrors?

Chuck, where can I get the dimming rearview?

Also, has anyone adapted their Ody to use the heated side mirrors that come on the Canadian version? Will those work with your mirrors, Hy?

Brad,
The Signal Mirrors are available through Muth Mirror Systems. I just checked again and they still only offer them for Ody in a non-heated version only for $219 + Shipping.

The ECT (Electrochromic (Auto-Tint) Rear View Mirror) is sold through Donnelly Electronics for $208.50 + Shipping.

If you are really determined to have the heated mirrors from the Canadian model and the Signal Mirrors, the only way I think you could do it would be to get the OEM mirrors from Honda and then add the Wide Angle Signal® Mirrors to those. It won't look as integrated like an OEM product, but will get you to your end result.

That sounds good. Then I can convert to the heated mirrors.

Which reminds me - are there any makers of clear corners for the Odyssey. I don't like the yellow.

i cannot remember the part #'s for the audi side markers but, if you check out the contour enthusiast web site and go to the modifications section, you can find the information.

Thanks Chuck.

Also, I also noticed that some of the the Odysseys with bodykits have side marker lights. I wonder if there is a 'factory' light for the European vans. I believe a side turn signal (called a 'repeater') is required in Europe. (E.g. the euro miatas have such a light.)

I just had another thought about adapting the Canadian heated side mirrors. Most luxury cars with heated side mirrors (BMW, Lexus, MBZ) do not have a switch to activate the heated mirrors - the mirrors are always on when the ignition is on.

It would be much easier to just replace the mirrors and the harness at the mirrors and run the heater element to a 12V source active with the ignition.

I just don't know why Honda decided to use a switch with the Canadian mirrors. Is there an issue I don't know about? Any thoughts are welcome.

I was under the impression there was a large power drain for most heating devices such as seats, mirrors etc. Besides, suppose you live in Arizona, why run this type of device continuously? Acura uses a power switch for their USA models.

Heated side mirrors are normally controlled by rear defogger switch which usually has a built-in timer to prevent overheating.
I suppose you could swap the mirrors with Canadian version and run a pair of wires to the fuse panel or battery and install an on/off switch or use a relay connected to rear defogger switch so that it will turn on when you use the rear defogger.
Where do you get Canadian version side mirrors?

I just installed Muth Signal Mirrors. Very straight forward installation except for the part about removing the original mirrors, I broke the right side because it is convex and you can't really put your fingers all the way in to snap it out.

I ordered from www.protruckoutfitters.com for $201 shipped, www.mitocorp.com sells the kits for $199 with free S&H but they haven't updated their website to include kits for Honda yet.

You and Hip raise some good points. I think if I decide to attempt it, I will do a full conversion replacing the switch and running a separate harness for the heaters.

I am assuming that if I can identify the part numbers (dealer parts counter can usually help with this), I will be able to order what I need from any Honda parts supplier. I have good sources for BMW stuff but not Honda. There must be some good web-based Honda parts suppliers out there.

If it isn't too costly or difficult a conversion someone could probably package a kit of parts and directions.

Lorax,
You can order Canadian side view mirror from www.daltshonda.com, they ship worldwide. I don't know how much Canadian mirror cost, but US version only cost $13 each. I would guess it'll cost around $30-35 each.
As for switch and wiring, all you need is 16 AWG marine grade wire (thin coated), inline fuse and a relay. If you have Odyssey Electrical Service Manual, check the wiring diagram of the rear defogger, that's where you will want to connect your relay because rear defogger switch has a built-in timer (15 minutes). The heater element for the mirror only needs 2 wire connection.

If you try to do "real" conversion, you would need to change out a few wire harnesses and the side view mirror adjustment switch, too costly and too much hassle.
I was thinking about doing the samething too before I saw hip's signal mirror.

hgani,

Thanks a lot. I still don't know if I'm going to do it yet, but you have given me a great start. I don't care about getting the wiring harnesses but I would want to get the Canadian switch.

Are you referring to the Odyssey Electrical Troubleshooting Manual? Is it worthwhile to purchase?

Yes, it is. It's my bible, I would not have been able to install my Remote Starter without it, immobilizer bypass device didn't exist 2 years ago, so I had to install a second immobilizer receiver to bypass it.
Can I ask why you want the Canadian switch? I will check the bible tonight, but I am sure if you do get the switch, you will need the harnesses.
