Replaced the valve cover gasket the other day, and was wondering about some things. In the first pic, what is that port on the far right under the intake manifold? Had a lot of buildup, I put a vacuum to it just in case. Didn't know if this was an indication of needed attention or just normal amount of residue ('07, 170k miles).

On the second pic, what is the part circled in red? Once everything was back together and I started the engine, it was making a noise that I would describe as kind of a popping air sound. I disconnected the wire and it stopped, and when I reconnected it stayed quiet. Just wondering if it was a fluke of disassembly or I should inspect/clean/replace. Thanks!
