Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how the sound system works (or doesn't) on our brand new 2011 Odyssey EX. I seem to be experiencing the problems others have had with the 'stereo' going mono after I use the hands-free (and supremely convenient) link. That is one issue, but my biggest concern at present is why there is no sound in the back of the van. If there are 6 (or is it 7) speakers, are they only located in the front? If we don't have the rear entertainment system, can rear passengers still be 'entertained' by the radio and CDs? Where exactly are all the speakers, and how do I get the sound to go to the back? I tried the audio controls... but balance, fade, etc. have no effect. Thanks for the help.

Speakers found!

No one answered me... so I went on another speaker search. It turns out that the back speakers are at the bottom front of each sliding door (you would think that they might be a little closer to the passengers' ears... but maybe some feet can hear!)

You choose 'fader' in the audio setup and shift things to RR (rear). Even if you're in the front, it seems to be better if you have sound coming from the back, too.

If anyone does feel like replying, let me know what you think of the sound system on the EX? Are there things that can be done (inexpensively) to enhance it (like adding a couple more speakers in the third row?)

i've no idea where they are on my ody, but if they're in an odd spot, i suspect they put the speakers there to make room for the window glass and its requisite components. judging by the new vans' inclusion of sliding door windows that open, it was higher on the list of customer complaints than poor audio quality.

sound quality, especially in a vehicle, seems to be very subjective. your idea of good sound may differ from mine. some want a hard low end, some want clarity.... yada yada. tuner forums will have loads and loads of info re ICE in general, regardless of which car. you can get some good info there and then translate it to the ody.

fwiw, i dramatically improved the sound quality of my mdx by just changing the front door speakers to polks with aimable tweeters... in addition to the amp and sub of course :D
i agree that changing the fader to +1 or 2 rear bias seems "round out" the staging.

i believe you have to go with the elite to get the big step up in audio setup, so your canadian ex and my american touring may actually have the same sound system. obviously, it can be improved if you want to go aftermarket, but for a factory system, it actually sounds good to me.

Canadian EX owner here also...

Just got our van on Friday and I find the sound in the back very lacking.

So if the rear speakers are at the bottom of the sliding doors that means there are none in the 3rd row? That seems silly considering the specs online say that there are 7 speakers on the EX model.

I found the sub in the back but that's it.
