After two months, I have noticed a small "starburst" shaped paint chip on the top edge of the back liftgate directly beneath the rear glass/rear wiper blades.

It is a very unusual place for a normal "road chip" and the shape almost suggests a stress fracture under the paint. There is no dent or scratch as if something fell on it. It has already started to slightly rust.

Is there ANY possibility I can get them to accept this as a paint defect under warranty and have the dealer fix it? Anyone have any ideas how it could have happened?

If I can't get them to fix it, anyone have any tips for using the touchup paint? A 2002 with rust on it in NOT COOL!!

It sure sounds like a defect to me... Stress fracture, or lack of primer or improper paint prep. Obviously the paint is not "sticking" and Honda should stand behind it after only 2 months...
