Hello everyone,
Have an 04 Ody that's making a high pitched chirping sound when starting. Noticed lately that it needs more cranks to get it started. When it catches the engine shudders just slightly, then idles like normal. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Might be the belts chirping. Remove them and see if the noise is still there when cranking.

I've never really heard of a starter making a high-pitched chirping noise but it could be the starter staying engaged in the flywheel.

I would say that the more likely cause of this chirping sound is a loose belt. Try tightening the power steering belt by following this guide:

1) Note the radio security code and disconnect the negative battery cable.

2) Loosen the power steering pump mounting nut and bolt.

3) Turn the adjusting nut to get the proper belt tension. Turning the adjustment nut clockwise increases the belt tension, conversely, turning the adjustment nut counterclockwise will decrease the belt tension.

4) Retighten the mounting nut and bolt.

5) Connect the negative battery cable.

6) Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times, then stop the engine and recheck the tension of the belt.
