We picked up our MB EX yesterday (it was raining like heck!). The only problem we noted in our 2 hour detailed inspection was that the driver's door is hard to close when all the other doors are already closed. When any of the other doors are open, the driver's door closes easily. The dealer said this was because the van is so "tight", the door gaskets are new / stiff and that with all the rain and humidity the door seals are even tighter. Does this sound plausible--has anyone else encountered this ? My petite wife (& primary van driver!) doesn't like the idea of having to slam the driver's door shut. Otherwise--it exceeds our highest expectations!

Welcome to the family!

You shouldn't have to slam the door with or without the windows closed. There are two rubber bumpers on the door that can be turned in or out by hand to adjust the closure of the door. A properly adjusted door will close very easily.

I have pics of the bumpers on my site, but the albums are going to be a little erratic for a few days and some of the pics may be missing. If you can't find the correct pics in the album, try again in a couple of days.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Chuck. I adjusted the bumpers on both the driver & passenger doors (all the way in.) We still have to slam the door shut if no other doors or windows are open. I know it sounds weird, but it seems like air pressure is keeping the door from closing. And if the drivers door is closed, and the front passenger door is the last one to close, it too is harder to close. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Do they close easily and smoothly with a window open? If they do, it may be that a gentle push would work better than slamming the door.

My hatch is like that. Try to slam it and it may not close, but close it slowly and the trapped air has time to escape and it'll close right just about every time. Just a thought.

One other thing that may work; lube the door seals with silicone or Shin-Etsu grease so they'll slide into place a bit easier. Not sure, but that may help.
