I have the Streetpilot Colormap and like it. It is very accurate and does most of what I want a GPS to do without the additional price. It does not, however, do point to point on the fly directions the way most of the manufacturer installed units work. You can purchase Garmin's Mapsource software and download street level information for any area you are traveling to.

In order to do turn by turn directions, you must either route your travels on a PC then download it to the GPS or go through the tedious task of doing it on the unit itself. This is great for long trips where you have time to do the routing yourself, not so great for spur of the moment locating.

For a bit more money, you can do the Streetpilot III
http://www.tvnav.com/sp3.html
which will give you automatic routing and turn by turn navigation. I do not have one of these, so I cannot offer any analysis, but I am pleased with the Garmin products I have owned.

The link above will take you to Darrel Goheen's site. He has the best prices on Garmin products I have found and has provided me great customer service, I have no problem recommending him.

Good luck.

There is a big difference between the Streetpilot Colormap and the Street Pilot III. Streetpilot III has on the fly routing and verbal turn instructions, Colormap does not. That is not to say that the Colormap is not a good product, its just an earlier generation at a better price.

You can look all day at prices, but call Darrel http://www.tvnav.com before you buy and I'm willing to bet he'll beat any advertised price. He does not have prices on his website to avoid other dealers complaining about his prices.
