My Honda dealer at Tyson's Corner, VA offered Free Oil and Lube for 2 years. I thought it was a great incentive...until it was time for my first 7500 mile service. The free oil and lube at the dealership where I bought the car was $15.00, but the rest of the service charge was $75.00. The oil change would have added another $15.00, for a total of $90.00.

When I called another Honda dealer in Manassas, VA for a service quote, they told me it was $75.00. I asked them to explain why another dealership would have charged me $90.00 without the free oil and lube offer. I think the dealership is artificially jacking up their maintainence prices so as not to lose anything, regardless of the 'incentive' offer of free oil and lube for 2 years.

Any body had similar experiences, or have suggestions, in this department?

Back in the "good ole days", when I last bought a new Honda, the dealer I bought the car from would perform the following actions at the 7500 interval services:

1. Oil and Filter change
2. Check/Top-off all the fluids
3. Normal inpsection of belts and hoses
4. Lube the door hinges, hood, and trunk latch
5. Check the air in the tires
6. Rotate the tires
7. Adjust the rear brakes
8. Vacuum and wash the car

Many good lube centers will perform 1-5, so I guess the extra $75 (it was $60 back then) was for 6-8. Someone has to pay for the tech's time!

Of course, when it was time to adjust the valves or change the air filter, there were additional fees.

Most dealers think they know better than Honda (or maybe they juist want the extra $
) and add in several items. They say something like, "Well that's what the manual says, but in our experience blah blah blah...". Do they want us to believe that they know better than the Honda designers and engineers?

If you live in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, area you might want to check out an idepedent garage called Car Doctor. I understand they specialize in Honda and have received top ratings for quality and price from Washington Checkbook magazine for years.
