If you've encountered any quirks, been confused by a feature, or discovered any cool little "Easter Eggs" with the 2011 Odyssey, this is the thread to talk about them!

The hope is that others will find the information useful.

For a starter list, here's what I think is worth knowing.

1. The Honda Nav/GPS system comes equipped with free FM traffic, but it's turned off by default. You can turn it on in the nav settings on the big screen (HUD). After doing so, traffic incidents show up as icons along the road, and heavy traffic shows up as a red line alongside the road on the screen.
2. Want your car to not lock the doors when you turn the ignition off or unlock all the doors when you push the button on the key? You can change those settings by pressing the "Info" button (the one with the "i") on the steering wheel, going to the intrument-displayed settings (near the speedometer, not the HUD) and tweaking things from there.
3. You can also adjust automatic headlight sensitivity with the menu mentioned in item 2.
4. If you're interested in XM radio, you can call them up and ask for the "$77 deal" instead of having to pay about double that normally. It's a well known internet "coupon".
5. If you have an iPhone/iPod, Wii or other device hooked up to the RCA input in the back, you can play its sound over the car speakers by both setting the "Rear Source" and the front audio to "AUX Input". If both the front and rear aren't both set to use the input, you'll only hear the rear sound for 30 seconds before it switches to headphones-only and reverts to whatever the front input was originally playing.

16 now available. Just requested them. Just hope there's a mental therapy section for when you're frustrated by the computer having so little access to control anything while moving.

Works for me, and it worked for me on the 12 and 16 TEs. Maybe it's a trim level thing. I don't know that I've seen it work on the driver's side, but I always have it set for the passenger side.

Just bought a 2016 EX-L with NAVI, upgrading from a 2005 EX-L so this is like a totally different car!

Reading this thread has been really helpful already - I'm a little wary of the navi now, but I was really unsafe looking at my phone in my 2005 with after market Bluetooth so I wanted to add it. Now I'm not so sure I'll be able to ditch Waze for the NAVI screen?

Anyway, my other question (besides the two about locks above) is if it's possible to change the 3" window situation - that the doors won't open unless the windows are only down 3" or less?

This sounds insane but our dog knows how to roll the window down herself and pretty much does so every time we get in the car unless I child lock the window. That's fine when I'm just city driving and usually it's on the way to pick the kids up from school. But if the door won't open unless I put it back up, that's a real pain! I know - sounds crazy but when you multiply every time you go somewhere with the whole window down, window back up to open door routine, it will get old fast!

So can I - or the dealer - change that feature to off?

Thanks in advance!

PS I do miss the two cups holders in the very front that popped out instead of one and the second glove box. And the most bizarre thing to me is that the 2nd row captains chairs have no inside armrests if you take out the center seat! And they had cup holders on the side of those seats, now nothing unless that middle seat is in and flipped down. We're pretty bummed about that - my teen girls had really gotten used to both of those features in the way back when 2005!

We just did nearly what you did: moved from a 06 EX-L with 301k miles to a 16 EX-L with Nav. Your PS notes those things that we miss: the second compartment was nice, and having two extra large cup holders from the dash was helpful when getting large drinks from drivethru while having our large Yetis. The lack of captains chair armrests really confuses us. Why are there none? I have not read or a single logical reason. They added them back in 2017. In our 06 we never had the middle seat in the van. With us now being empty nesters, we were willing to concede to having the middle seat always installed. I think that in terms of storage, the 2005-2010 generation tops all Odysseys and likely all minivans.

Locks: Two settings, one for keyless, the other for remote button
(1) press settings, >vehicle settings, >keyless access, >door unlock, >all.
(2) Settings, >vehicle settings, >door, >key & remote, >all

Auto Lock: Settings, >vehicle settings, >door, >auto lock, >off.

Not sure where to post this but...

I've been trying to find specs and differences between year models but cant seem to find one. I know 2014, they did some minor changes to the 4th gen but I am not sure if there are any differences between 2014, 2015 and 2016. Sorry if this question has been posted but I tried searching and came up empty. So are there any differences between year models for the same trims? EX-L/Touring/TE? TIA.

Not sure simply edmunds.com is the answer. I don't believe there are changes other than nav software and progressive fixes that don't hit the radar.

Probably you can get Honda Care. How long ago was it bought?

Just a thought, but to have inner arm rests could you switch the two outboard seats of the middle row? Since I'm always the driver I don't even know if the doors have enough of an arm rest on their own (where it'd be like having arm rests on both sides of the seat)... So I don't know if my suggestion would even help. But if they prefer to lean towards to middle of the vehicle then it may still be helpful.

We bought a new 2016 Special Edition a couple of months ago and have been having intermittent issues with the auto sliding doors. Every few days they won't open automatically. Not with the fob. Not when you pull the door handle. Not with the button up front. Yes, the doors are turned on, all the obvious stuff is how it should be. The van can be on, it can be off, doesn't matter. So I have to manually pull it open, and then manually shut it (even if I turn the van on after opening it, but before shutting it). But! After that first inconvenience of the day it will work fine. I'm a stay at home mom and we don't leave the house often, so I'd say about half of the time that first door opening it won't work. So inconvenient!!! I took it to the dealership and left it with them for a couple of days (needed it back for a doctor appointment). They couldn't replicate the issue so it couldn't be fixed. They don't know why it's happening and haven't heard of the issue before. Ugh. I just want my doors to function. Has anyone else been as unfortunate as I? :(

I guess I'll have to check, but I don't think we've ever had trouble opening the doors with the windows open. The fuel filler door on the other hand…

Directly from the owner's manual:

Each sliding door has a pinch sensor on the front edge. Do not damage this sensor, or the power sliding door may not operate properly.

It also says do not allow anyone or anyone's extremities to get in the path of the door or death or serious injury can occur. But, yes, it will reverse it's travel when that pinch sensor is pushed or the door encounters resistance. Just like your garage door I recommend testing it to make sure it works. I often push the pinch sensor on the doors just to make sure they reverse. I also push backwards on the outside handle when the door is in motion to see if slowing it will make it reverse.

Btw my new 2016 Ody is approaching the 1000 mile mark. The sales guy said to stop by a honda dealer for a "pit stop" checkup. The dealer I bought the car from is 60 miles away. So I'll have to go to my nearby dealer.

But is this needed? I can check basic things like fluid levels. Have any of y'all done this?

thanks

The "pit stop" the sales guy mentioned is almost certainly just a visual check for fluid levels and leaks. You can do this just as well in your driveway, while saving 120 miles of driving. :)

Looking for Maintenance guide

Hi folks. I'm still new around here, so forgive me if this question has already been addressed. I am the owner of a 2013 Honda Odyssey TE and now that my warranty related issues have all lapsed, I am looking to get a maintenance/repair manual for my vehicle. Usually I run over to Auto Zone or some local place like that, but I figured I'd just look online and I'm having a little trouble locating the manual for my vehicle. Does anyone know where I could find one? Thanks a bunch for any help. Luckily I'm not having any issues, but I always like to be prepared if something should arise.

It's easy. Navigate to the forum of interest. (One way is to follow the breadcrumbs at the top of this page.) Then press "Start Discussion" near the upper right of the screen.

Welcome to the forum. :)
