I just got done replacing the head gasket on my van, and there's a ticking noise that wasn't there before. I've tried listening to different parts of the engine with a screwdriver, but I can't figure out where it's coming from. The second video is under the van, where the noise is louder. If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate the help.

Almost sounds like something was left disconnected/loose and is flopping around.

You can run the vehicle with the serpentine belt removed for a short time. It will make it so your battery isn't charging, but no harm.
Try seeing if it is louder under the vehicle. If it is, see if it is louder in the wheel well. Did you have any left over bolts/nuts? Anything that you installed loose with other components and didn't double back to it, like the serpentine belt tensioner 12 mm bolt.

Do you mean take it off and look at the pulleys?
You can run the engine without the serp belt and eliminate all the accessories it drives as a potential cause. As stated only down side is you won't be running your alternator but you can run it long enough to eliminate that section as the cause of your noise. As long as you have a decent charge of n your battery you'll be fine.

Great I'll try that. I don't have any left over bolts/nuts, and I was very careful about torquing everything down, but it's possible. I'll start with the belt and see if that tells me anything. Thanks

I didn't know you could run it with the belt off, but I'll try that tomorrow. The battery is relatively new, so it should be fine. Thanks a lot for the advice!

It's definitely loudest under the car, but it's really hard to pinpoint where it's coming from. It sounds just as loud at the front of the engine as it does near the back. I guess the sound is echoing. The only thing I can tell so far is it's loudest under the car near the drive belt, and taking the belt off didn't affect the noise.

Try opening and closing the upper timing cover peep hole and see if it is coming from behind the cover. Open and close the oil cap and see if you can hear it. Same with the dip stick, and the small hose going to the large hose between the throttle body and air filter. Although it does sound external, at least you can rule out internal sources.

Thanks I'll give it a try.
