2003 Odyssey. How much force is required to depress the timing belt tensioner so I can insert a pin for reassembly? I put the tensioner in a vise but it seems like it barely moves when I tighten the vise, I'm afraid to break the tensionser.

Thanks, Rick

I think there must be a REALLY small orifice for the oil to pass through. If you go SUPER slow on the vice, it'll compress pretty easy. If you try to force it, it's like trying to compress a solid rod.

Book says no more than 2,200 lb. You may need to find a press to do it.

What Wade said. Use a vice, compress a bit, rest, compress, rest, etc.. They are prone to leaking, personally I would just replace it and enjoy the peace of mind.

Thanks for the help. It took about 3 minutes to depress the tensioner. Finished the project yesterday.
