Ok, after much debate about aftermarket or OEM, I had the dealer install a factory hitch and harness. I had a larger transmission cooler installed somewhere else. Anyway, everything worked great. Towed 1 time, one way and then while wheeling my small trailer to the van for the return trip, the trailer harness fell off the hitch and I ran it over with the front jack/wheel and cut it
not all the way thru, but serious enough it required replacing. But before I did, I plugged it in to check it. Everything worked. brakes, turn signals, hazards, but NOT the running lights. All lights and signals work on the van.
It was still light, so I drove to a hardware store and got a new wiring adapter for the trailer and cut off the exposed stuff and rewired. Same thing, brakes, turn signals, flashers all worked. Running lights did not. Washed, rinsed and repeated, same result. I thought maybe I stretched a wire in the trailer, so when I got home I hooked it up to our Chrysler that we haven't sold yet and all the lights and signals work, including the running lights, so it's not the trailer wiring.
I'm wondering if I didn't blow a fuse hooking it up when there were still exposed wires? But which one? I looked under the hood, i had read that "small lights" was the 10A fuse that controlled running lights on a trailer? I haven't found anything else that has helped me. I checked the other fuses in the engine compartment and they all looked good. Most of the interior boxes appear to be for interior stuff and before I go thru and pull ever fuse in the van and check it, I was wondering if anybody has any ideas? or the location of a fuse I might try?
Like I mentioned before, ALL the lights and signals work fine on the van. Brakes, turn signals and hazards work on the trailer, but the running lights on the side and rear do not turn on when the van lights are turned on for night driving. Any thoughts?
