I might have put the original thread in the wrong forum so I am posting here as well.
So my 2003 Odyssey with 234k miles wound up having problems with the tranny (original one).
I noticed the gear slipping (rpms would jump up and car would not move at all) in 2nd gear and about 3 weeks ago, it gave out. The tranny would violently jerk into gears, and at times it wouldn't engage at all.
Took it to couple of shops and they all agreed it was time for a new transmission. Got quoted $3k for a rebuilt tranny. Having 234k miles on the car, I went with the cheaper option and got the original tranny rebuilt for $2k.
So I got the car back, tranny was no longer slipping in 2nd gear but I noticed a whole slew of new problems:
1) car feels sluggish taking off.
2) the rpms don't seem right....it doesn't go up/down smoothly and rather jumps all over the place.
3) MPG is horrible. Right before I took the car in, I was averaging 20mpg with the slipping tranny. Now I am averaging 16-17 mpg.
4) car "thunks" into gears. Usually just 2nd and 3rd. No sound...just a slight shudder and then a "thunk" feeling. Happens on the downshift as well.
Since I had a 12month warranty I took the van back to the shop. After a whole day of troubleshooting they came back and said it was broken motor mounts.
My question is....really? Will bad motor mounts cause all those problems, especially the bad mpg?
They want another $200 but I want a second opinion before I drop any more money into the van.
