my CEL came on
then 150miles later while going up a hill the trans was slipping so much the car
wouldnt move. I was able to drive home in reverse. It works perfectly in
reverse. Here is where it gets wierd. I can start it up drive it for 5 minutes
before it starts slipping. Then I shut the car off. Start it again and it will
drive normally for a minute or to. I have not been able to read the codes yet.
Could it be the torque converter. Is there a way to fix this besides a new
transmission? thanks

Unfortunately, you need a new tranny.

And don't plan on driving it very far from home either. My brother-in-law got stuck in his '99 about 300 miles from home (and a 150 mile tow from the nearest dealer) last summer when the second tranny crapped out. And it had been acting up for a few months before that. He got towed to the closest dealer, and $5300 later ($300 tow and $5K at the dealer for a tranny), has the van back home. Ouch!
