My 2002 Ody with 900 miles on it very rarely rises above 2 rpms (the 2 on the dial) in city driving. It shifts from 1st to 4th in the space of about 10mph so it's constantly shifting up and down. It's driving me nuts because it feels so "loosie goosie" on the road. My dealer says nothing is wrong. The wording is "van has learning computer that will compensate for variables in driving habits for best performance". Huh? Should I be doing some pedal to the metal to reve it up more? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

The transmission is shifting soon because you are operating under high vacuum, low load conditions. It knows which gear it should be in for a given set of conditions and will surely remain in the lower gears when you demand faster acceleration or try to climb a steep hill. It is just all the electronics you paid for.....

That is, unfortunately, the price you pay for better fuel mileage. Try putting the trans in D3 around town. That may make for a better driving experience.
