tl;dr: my wife said she was doing 40 MPH and the RPMs were up around 5000.

This is more of a report than an ask for help, since the van (2012 Touring) has been running ok since then.

Yesterday my wife got in the van to take my son to school, and within a couple minutes of leaving she called and said that the van was very sluggish, and the engine was up around 5000 RPMs just to get it up to 40 MPH. No CEL. She turned around and came back home.

I got in the van to check it out. I tried to connect my phone to my ODBLink that was already plugged in, but my phone couldn't connect to it. Then I realized that it wasn't plugged in all the way, and I was able to connect once I seated it properly. Then I completely unplugged it and took it for a test drive. Everything seemed 100% normal, and it has been normal ever since.

How likely is it that an improperly connected ODBLink could cause that problem? I figured that it was somehow interferring with the computer, and the computer was never telling the transmission to shift. Is that a reasonable explanation? How lucky am I that this didn't completely fry the computer? OR is my transmission about to die?

Mileage? Has the ATF been maintained regularly? At least every 30k the fluid should be replaced.

About 130k. I did a couple drain and fills when I first got it at 95k about 3 years ago, but it's due for another.
If it was never changed before when you first did it at 95k, a transmission issue wouldn't necessarily surprise me. The Honda DW-1 fluid is usually only good for 30k at most.

Change that trans fluid.
20k miles would be the longest I would go with oem honda fluid.
Especially if you never had the software updated.

if it was indeed operator error, you wont hear much about it again.

there have been reported cases of pressure switches going bad, which will exhibit as higher revs and harsh banging shifts.

if the issue comes back, we can link you to the related posts.

I’m willing to bet she was in Low gear
Me too. Easy enough to keep the button on the shifter pressed and move it an extra notch. It'll use 1st and 2nd gear in that position (6-speed).

You could do anything you want to that OBD-II port and it won't affect how the engine runs... that would be part of the safety testing that any automotive system would go through before releasing to the public.

most likely start acting up shift solenoid I dont think they do produce DTC if only a glitch not unless failed or broken wire. also required high end scan tool to retrieved transmission fault codes. first thing should do if slipping felt check your transmission fluid make sure it is in proper level, sometime they do leak from the axle shaft side, low fluid will cause slipping and burn your clutch quickly. then follow preventive maintenance as what most tech say here regular service the fluid, and don't forget the software update. if the slipping happen more frequent you have now a failing component inside trans. good luck
