Vent in front of Rear view mirror - what is it? (Locating spot for dash cam)

A small defrost fan up behind the mirror? Usually defrost is from the lower front of the windshield. I think it's like post #3 says, passive cooling for the components tucked in there. Unless it's to clear the area for the windshield camera? Whole lot of added features in the 5th Gen like LKAS that our 3rd Gen doesn't have. Also a few posts here about $$$ repairs to replace camera or windshield and recalibrate the system.
To the OP- does your Owner's Manual have any warnings or info about mounting things behind the mirror? :unsure:
