vibration problem

I have an 03 LX with 215 miles on it, and today we drove on the interstate for the 1st time. At 65 to 70 MPH there is a vibration in the steering wheel, I can take my hands off the wheel and see it move. Also it seems to be pulling to the right a little. I was wondering if many people have had a problem with vibration/alignment in their new Ody's and how it was solved. I sure hate to start making trips back to the dealer so soon, but for the money I just paid out the van needs to be right. Thanks for any help or advice.

First thing I'd check would be tire balance. (I always check cheap stuff first). A bad balance can cause both those problems.

Hope your dealer does you right.

If balance is ok, try swapping tires front to back. See if it still vibrates.

I have had this problem for most of the time that we have owned our Ody. I have tried balancing, alignment, replaced tires about 2 years ago. After the tires were replaced, it got a little better, but it is still there.

I have a friend who has the same problem as well.

Dealer won't drive at the speed where the vibration occurs so they can't diagnose or try to fix it. They did tell me that the suspension parts looked good - no unusual wear or loose joints.

So, we are just living with it. That is one of my disappointments with Honda after all the good things people say about their other models. The other is the weatherstrip on the front passenger door keeps coming out, no matter what the dealer does. This is our first Honda.

Otherwise, can't complain.

Just had our van in the tire shop yesterday for a balance and alignment. I had noticed a slight increase in steering wheel movement and the ride had deteriorated somewhat. At 22,500 I felt it was time anyway.

When I picked it up they said that the tires were out of balance a little, and both front and rear alignments were out just slightly. I could see on the wheels where some of the weights had previously been.

The drive home was wonderful. The van "felt" better than it had in a while. I can't explain the sensory difference, as the driver, other than to say that it felt like all 4 tires were in contact with the road just as they were supposed to be. No steering wheel shimmy up to 70 mph.

If your van is new, make the dealer take it to an independent tire shop that you are familiar with. Nothing can ruin a driving experience more than a distraction from the steering wheel in your hands.

BTW, what does anyone use to clean the heavy dirt off the wheels on an EX?

Be sure to let the shop put balancing weights on both sides of the wheels, if the balancing machine calls for it. I know it does not look as nice as having the weights on the inside edge but you get a better balance if you allow the balancing machine to indicate weight placement on both sides.

At most shops, they have to input into the balancing machine whether to put weights on inside or both edges.

It´s all about the weather strip, specially if it is loose!

I have notice the noise going over 120 (km/h) which is about 70 I think. (Basically when you are on the highway at a higher speed than in the city).

It scared me because it sounded like a real roaring noise. I thought they were the tires, or the steering wheel, or the alignment but my wife said it was coming from the windows. I could not believe it until I stick my finger and all the sudden, the problem and noise were gone.

I used a folded light weight cardboard and placed between the door and the body of the car, right in the front of the window and it solved the noise.

Now I am planning to replace the weather-strip and I hope not to use the cardboard again!
