I'm looking for some insight to a problem I'm having with tires on my 2004. I put Goodyear Viva 2 tires(from Walmart) on about 2 yrs ago(30K miles). Last weekend my family and I hit the road to escape Hurricane Irene. We rarely drive on the interstate. When we would reach 70 mph which was the speed limit the steering wheel would wobble in my hands. I backed off to between 60 and 65 mph and it would go away. Upon returning home the wobble returned at lower speeds.(50-60 mph). The tire have always been rotated on time. I feel no scalloping across the treads. I pulled out the service receipt for the tires. I also had a flat tire repaired last year at WalMart. On the receipt for the repair, in the technician's remarks box was "Tires will be serviced until no longer serviceable. Wrong speed rating". Now I'm really concerned. Did they put the wrong tires on my van? Did they realize it and fail to warn me? Any comments would be appreciated.

You say they have been rotated, were they balanced, too?

Thanks for replying. You make a good point. I have the lifetime balance and rotation package on these tires, so they should have been balanced when rotated. That little disclaimer about the speed rating has me concerned about the safety of my Ody.

You can cheCk for yourself: Your tires have their rating on their side. Tire rack has the OE tires as being 225/60R16 98T. If the last letter is less than T, your tires have an insufficient speed rating. T is 118MPH and Each letter down lowers the speed by abut 6MPH.

The rating on the sidewall is 97S. I really don't plan on driving 112 mph but I still find it odd that they would put those tires on the van then but not now. They would refuse to service them if I hadn't bought them there. I think I'll take them somewhere else for an opinion and go from there. Thanks Nicolas.
