Jim, saw from one of your posts that you've started a list of '02 parts you want to get for your '01. What things are you thinking of beside the cupholders? Would you need to slice up the seat somehow to install that cupholder unit?

I'm wondering if the DVD unit itself could be used in conjunction with the VCP in the i-VES system that is being installed in my new SS EX. I still haven't figured out the best way to add DVD capability to the i-VES and was waiting until I actually have the car to make a decision. Options seem to be a mobile DVD player, PlayStation2, or wait for the X-box to see if that will work.

In previous posts, some have speculated that it could be possible to convert the rear drums to discs. What would be involved in doing something like that?

Also, how long does it usually take for parts from a new model to be readily available?

I anxiously await responses from all of you ody mod gods.
I'm hoping that we can get our 01's to have at least some of the new features by cannibalizing '02 parts!

The cupholders should be easy. It should be just a single part swap.

The taillights should be fairly easy as well.

The rear discs will be MUCH more involved. I'll be ordering a 2002 FSM from Helm as soon as they are available. I wouldn't be surprised if you basically have to replace most of the rear suspension.

Hmm...let's see

EASY
Jim's probably right about the tail-lights and cupholders.

Shift Knob - Should be easy. Screw off, screw on.

Front Grill/Emblem - If you want the larger H you would have to swap the grill and get a new emblem.

Leather on side of doors - Looks like it would involve replacing the entire (or a portion) of the door panel. Not the easiest mod but not necessarily the hardest either.

Springs n' Shocks - Most likely just swap'em.

HARD
Magic Seat Net Hooks - Believe it or not. You might have to put something in the seat to secure the screwed in hooks.

DVD - For the screen itself it's probably no different than installing the IVES or any aftermarket drop-down screen. As for the DVD compartment in the front it seems simple enough. Looks like a couple of plastic parts, the DVD unit, a new sized pocket and maybe some form of mounting bracket. But's its kind of hard to tell from just from a picture. But looks possible.

Although it seems the 2002 stereo headunit will also act as controls (at least for the front) for the DVD unit. So you might have to upgrade headunit as well. Unless it's possible it may still work with just the controls on the screen and with the remote. But then again - if that were the case then the NAVI and RES would be offered together.

240 Horsepower - This one's scary. This is mostly speculation but you would need:

- The 5-speed tranny
- Either all or portions of the new exhaust system
- Possibly ECU reprogramming to get it properly configured with the new parts. (Such as the VTEC timing)
- New Air Intake?

Rear Disc Brakes - Hard to tell. Things to consider though are:

- Will they be able to mount and fit on our rear suspension?
- How will they work with the ABS?

Also it's seems the airbag/steering wheel are totatly different from ours. So you would need those two together. No clue if your existing harness wires would match with the new bag/steering wheel though. Because it's seems there's two ways to activate the horn now. Either the center or pushing the top corners of the bag.

FYI, The '02 cupholders in the photos I saw look like the twins of some I recently bought for my Volvo 850. See the following URL:

They are pretty pricey from IPD ($40 each)-hopefully the Honda versions will be cheaper (Calling Trevor!).

I've been acting like this ever since I got my Ody. There must be a chip in my head set to "SWAP". I literarlly can breakdown the possibilites of swapping parts. Look at my track record: Acura TL-S steering wheel, EX to NAVI, EX to LX roof molding.

Too bad you are up Northern Ca. If you were in So Ca, it would be fun to have a Ody Club member meeting in So Ca. So we could check out your Mods.

Well I know my dad's 98 Sienna. Most likely that's where Honda got the idea from.

Actually, Chrysler has been putting their second row cupholder on the seats itself since there last redesign.

One of these days we need to set an "All Cali" meet. But not yet...we need to build up on Bay Area members. There's only about a handful of us around.

Captain Nemo...if it takes place next summer you can count us Indiana folks in. We'll be in the bay area in a few weeks but unfortunately, won't be driving the ODY. Next year we plan to drive out. I'm an x-bay area resident so I can sneak in as a "All Cali" alumni.

I think you forgot the new 3-rocker VTEC head, larger throttle body, different intake manifold, different pistons/crank (higher compression ratio), different knock sensors, '02 ECU to control all of this, and I know there must be more I'm forgetting. Looks like they simply put the motor from the MDX in. Seems to me it'd be way easier to wait for an '02 or an MDX to be totaled on a rear hit and drop in the entire powertrain and ECU, but by that time you'd probably be able to trade an '01 for an '02 for less $$. Then again there's always a 50 shot of nitrous....

What about these parts: air filter (i.e. K&N), transmission cooler, trailer hitch? Will the 2001 parts fit the 2002 version? Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe the Accura MDX air filter will fit. The pic I saw of the exhaust system says that is is all new, and maybe this will require a different trailer hitch to get around it.

Like I said...it's "mostly speculation"
. Actually it would be even easier to just wreck your current Ody and hope your insurance will spring for a new 2002!

Didn't you say you had a friend at Honda? Can they give you any details on the exact differences of the 2002? But like you said - we COULD just wait for the 2002 Helm manual.

I'll call him this week sometime to see what he can tell us.
