What does RR stand for?

I figure one R is for Rear. What's the other for? Responsibility? The manual doesn't say either (and the people at the dealership got quite pissed as if they had heard this question a hundred times before and still felt foolish not being able to answer it).

Red Rock?

Right Rear?
My guess is ReaR control. I think it's the same in Chrysler vans too (I may be wrong though). RC would make much more sense.
Rear Refrigerant?

Rear Route?

Rear Ready?

Rear Refreshment?

Real Retarded?

Ridiculously Rong?

Ruckus Raiser?

Could be anything, what is the context?

May I presume: "rear remote?"

RailRoad. NEVER cross a railroad unless this switch is properly positioned. Hope it's not too late for you, because all mine does now is make the REAR REMOTE active. You know...the remote control back there in the rear area.

Perhaps it means one of the following:

Road Rage - Push that button when someone cuts in front and it'll zap him/her.

Roaring Rapid - Push that button when the TCS doesn't engage.

Radio Reset - Push that button to reset the radio to factory settings.

Repeat Reverse - Push that button when programming CD play sequence.

Thanks for the creative answers, gang!

To the rest of you who said "it's Rear Remote, you moron", you missed the point. Rear Remote is just too redundant - where else would a temperature remote be? Outside? Under the car? At home?

Plus, it already says "Rear Control" underneath the dial. So adding Rear (or R in this case) is pointless. You might as well add R in front of every position on that dial. They all have to do with the rear!!

I'm not about to have a heart attack over this but you have to admit - it does jump out as being the one part of the dashboard that makes no sense. As if the rest of the dash was designed by people with a sense of simplicity and economy of expression - and then a manager stepped in at the last minute to fill in for a sick designer one day to do this RR thing.

Ok, I admit there are a bunch of other things on the dash that aren't quite as smooth as they could be. The seat heater switches (lighting, location, and use) comes to mind. And that weird iconography on the wiper stalk might as well have been written in Latin.

What more proof is needed that you can always trust a salesma...uhm, person to know what they're talking about?
Since the middle row or second row is now "officially" the Rear Row, is the magic
seat the Rearest Row???

donlibes,

I do believe there is valid logic in the RR designation.

If you set the Rear Control at any other position than RR, A/C for the rea is controlled by that front switch. The remote switch in the rear is inactive.

When you set the Rear Control in the RR position, the remote switch in the rear controls the A/C.

What would be a better way to briefly name the function of passing control to the remote in the rear?

I agree that Rear Control is fine. The problem is they already used that underneath the front panel knob! So I would go along with changing RR to RC as long as they change the label underneath the knob from Rear Control to Rear Temp.
