I'm here to report back, I installed the Dorman Door Checker or Door Brake whichever you prefer.

Not a fun job. I watched a video on replacing one but it was on a Gen 3 and really wasn't much help for by then
things changed.

I need to admit I took the Lord's name in vain many times ESPECIALLY after I got it back together and then the power doors locks did not work. Come on..........really?

Stopped for lunch to clear my head and went back at it. Then I tried using the key to cycle the lock and unlock mechanism and don't ask me why, that got the power lock working again. My forehead is red and raw from rubbing it trying to figure out what didn't work, what worked sometimes, what worked and then didn't and finally what did work.

A simple remove and replace took me hours sad to confess. If I was a mechanic, I'd be living on Happy Meals in a Cardboard box. I am humbled and also exhausted on what looked like, a simple repair.

Yes it is working well..in fact a bit stiff....but compared to what it was, i'd rather have stiff than sloppy.

Make sure you have some of the plastic doors buttons, clips or snaps because I broke 5 of mine off getting the
door panel off. It doesn't look like any one was inside the door as the rain shield and all was still adhered to the
door frame well.

This job would have been so so sooooooooo easy had they had threaded NUTS INSIDE the door frame and the
door jamb. 3 bolts out and 3 bolts in, bada bing badaboom. Amazing how much disaasembly needs to be done to fix a minor issue.

Next is the passenger door lock actuator........like DICK CLARK USED TO SAY ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND:

THE HITS JUST KEEP ON A'COMIN馃檨

It was only $15 for the part. Why would I pay the OEM markup for a Honda part on a 22 year old minivan.
If it wears out on 3 days, I've only lost $15 and my time.
Are your shins worth $15? To me, some people like to complain rather than fix the problem. It's easier.

No it was an education for me at the cost of $15. I was just being honest, as in it was a challenge for me. I'm 71 and due to some physical disabliites, it wasn't easy. I believe you've made your case for why you wouldn't do it and won't do it.

I posted what I found, thought and did. You are free to criticise this thread or anyother thread you wish to.

If nothing else, now when I go to replace the inop passenger door power lock solenoid, the door panel removal will be easier knowing what I know. So to me, it was a worthwhile challenge or adventure with sure some bumps along the way.

You never know until you try. I mean I could have always taken it to my Honda Dealership and had them do it and install ther overpriced part and be satisfied with handing them a check and what did I learn from that?? If you think education is expensive, you should see what ignorance costs you. My passenger door panel awaits me. Have a great day. 馃憤

Most of us gain wisdom with age, and have a firm understanding of how valuable our time is.

If you want to assume that I wouldn't fix it, be my guest. You know what happens when you assume.
Don't you have other threads needing your attention.......you've made your point........move on. Please. And please post YOUR thread if and when you fix yours so we can all read it.
I look forward to it.....as I'm sure others do as well.

I don't think I'd need to make a thread for it, there may already be some. And you'd give me a big head if you said anyone looked forward to my posts.

If it has to be said, I don't plan to replace them until I replace the speakers in the doors, which is a back burner project for me. There is no immediate need to replace either component.

I learned to wrench the way you did doing this job. Trial and error, divide and conquer, and fix it right the first time, which also means using quality parts.

You plead the case of this being a pretty rough job, and my only opinion on your experience is that you've used a brand of parts that is known for its failure rates and that I would have researched which part to buy before pulling the trigger.

I applaud your effort in getting this job one, I know how intense delving inside a door can be if you've never done it before.
Funny how few posts I have, and you have 1200 posts........wow. I see you hide your profile. I wonder how many threads you start. Or do you just go around and comment on everyone elses? Odd how you can amass 1200 posts in as little two years and four months. You must spend a lot of time on here sharing your wisdom, skills and abilities.

I guess you really do make this forum a better place. Gee how I wish I would have found your thread on replacing the door checker first. It may have saved me a lot of work and $15 since I'm mechanically challenged. Please, start threads so I can come see and read the expertise of someone with all the answers. It will save a lot of members a lot of time.
And your post count will grow and grow and grow.........heck I'lll even subscribe to your threads.

Oh come come now, you are too modest.......surely.........you are the benchmark by which we must measure all others.
Are you trolling me to build up your post count, or mine?

You've been trolling me since I first commented. One immature snarky comment after another. It's like arguing with a child about which is the best Pok茅mon. Sorry for hurting your feelings so profoundly. Not everyone is here to pat you on the back and tell you what a great job you did so you don't feel bad.
I think we should let the members decide who started trolling........I'm just a newbee with very few posts. My history doesn't show trolling. While you were replying, I was out honing my mechanical skills so someday I can be a legend in my mind like some folks on here, who know it all.
I've been on plenty of forums in my life, and there's always someone like..............well..........we needn't name names.
You don't like snarky but you can dish it out. Hurts when you meet your match and you're called out.
I 'll keep posting my threads and you come back and post your .............whatever. It makes you feel better rather than posting anything positive, I believe you are the curmudgeon. And that is a pretty big word.............for the rest of us.
Thanks for sharing it. I'll be sure to use it. Oh wait I just did. OH LOOK ANOTHER POST FOR ME!!!!

Oh and finally, I don't need post counts like some folks to make me feel like I'm important. I'm okay with who I am.
I've enjoyed your posts contrary to what you may think. You have been a great source of entertainment for me and maybe some others. Thanks for playing along...what do we have for parting gifts Johnny????.

I've asked the moderator to lock this thread since it's not producing any results positive to the thread. You're welcome.
