WHATS IN MY SPARK PLUG THREAD

4839 Views 93 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  bresodyssey
There is something stuck in my spark plug thread but I already pulled the old one out (it wasn't broken) and had a mechanic do a compression test on it but they checked and have all their pieces from their kit. I have tried using the spark plug socket, pliers, magnets, etc. This is the last spark plug I have to put in and no one can tell me how this thing got in there. It's also at the back of the engine and really hard to access. HELP please

Fwiw;

No it can't grab onto it, it won't turn. I'll try to get a better picture
How you doing on the better picture you stated you were going to post.
Inquiring minds would like to know.
At this point it doesn't really matter what it is...what's important is to give good ideas how to get it out. Once it's out....then we'll know what it is.
Has anyone considered we may have a troll.

You all are eating this up, trying to figure it out.

The whole premise is impossible.
And everyone knows it.

I may try this too now in the future. :p
Big-time agree....this whole issue seems very trollish
we were either duped, or the OP figured it out and felt a bit embarrassed at the cause.

single serving posters.

And the 'plug' did not look like it even got down deep enough to get into the threads.
But, hell, it was interesting and entertaining. :p:D:eek:🤣

Maybe I'm too old but I just can't fathom why anyone would take the time to post this as a troll reaction.
It's not like you are starting a honda vs toyota war and get to watch other posters be nasty to each other.
Why?

I see a spark plug if I squint, but the rubber insert from a socket would be stuck to the tip of the plug unless OP tried cramming a socket that was too small over the plug.

I laughed when @maxud said UFO because that's exactly what the pic and resulting thread reminded me of!
Please tell us your UFO story!

UFO stories? As long as nobody got probed, I’m all ears for a UFO story.

Even if somebody did get probed, just leave that part out.

So, aliens put a tracking device into the OP’s spark plug hole while he wasn’t looking…

… that explains why the mech didn’t know about it, with all tools accounted for.

No story, just the OP's pic and it's lack of clarity, and being a still video and the unidentified nature of the object reminded me of a UFO sighting!

When aliens start probing the Honda VCM engines, to steal the technology, you know we can beat them!

As long as they don't probe the owners of these vehicles, I'm good with this!:ROFLMAO::D

Man, I don't want to think about what those aliens would try ...

The Kids in the Hall -- UFO Alien Job Security

This is from The Kids in the Hall (Canadian sketch comedy series from late 80's into the mid 90's). At least they make it clear that the aliens seem to target people driving pickup trucks down isolated rural roads (this is why me and my Odyssey stick to them highways, baby!)

***SORRY EVERYONE. I meant to update but there were so many replies. Let's just say the mechanic was a dud. It was in fact in a spark plug but was not properly threaded and was off center and that's why my socket wouldn't sit right and the coil pack wouldn't go back in so it took me a bit of fiddling with it. He told me he had put a spark plug in cylinder 3 and I never checked because he had put it all back together. Turns out #3 was missing a plug. He put the coil pack back on with no plug in🤦‍♀️. Hence why I had an "extra" plug. Good news is I fixed it and everything is back together properly and my engine is running good again. Not a troll I promise! I was genuinely confused but suffice to say I will not be getting his "help" again.

You are right! I wasn't trolling. It's also my first time posting on this forum and I haven't quite figured out how it works and there were too many replies to address them individually but I posted an update

Not if there is a hole in that plug. I would bet that if you crank the engine over now a lot or air comes out of that hole. Does it? Course you don't want to take the chance of it getting sucked in.
Is it possible that the plug was in the hole and you pushed it into the spark plug threaded hole while attempting to put in a new plug?
Either way, you need to get it out. Maybe even use a long lag type bolt that will screw into that rubber plug, or whatever it is and it might be able to pull it out, A left handed thread would be best, if they even make such a thing.

QUESTION? Did the mechanic do the compression test in his shop? If so, how did you get the Ody back to your place?

I posted an update but to answer some questions my odyssey was towed in front of my place after I was quoted 7K by a honda dealer for a full piston ring replacement. I didn't wanna risk driving it with the flashing engine light on. He came and did the test outside of my place.

new plugs, muzzle it, clear the code, put a bottle of techron in half a tank of gas.
drive it hard when getting on the highway.

@bresodyssey , I'm just glad you're not a UFO alien infiltrator trying to wrest the "secrets" of Odyclub away from us.

We're kind of like the Knights Templar, sworn to an oath to uphold the precepts of "Odydom" (like a Kingdom, but different ...)

Anyways, I'm just glad that now I don't have to worry about being abducted by aliens and can now drive deserted off-highway roads at night in my Odyssey without aliens thinking it might be a pickup truck with a missing spark plug (if the reference to this is unclear, just see that The Kids in the Hall comedy sketch I posted in post #55 above ... I'm the first non-alien guy in the sketch, on the gurney, with the missing teeth ... )

😁 😅👍
