WHATS IN MY SPARK PLUG THREAD

4839 Views 93 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  bresodyssey
There is something stuck in my spark plug thread but I already pulled the old one out (it wasn't broken) and had a mechanic do a compression test on it but they checked and have all their pieces from their kit. I have tried using the spark plug socket, pliers, magnets, etc. This is the last spark plug I have to put in and no one can tell me how this thing got in there. It's also at the back of the engine and really hard to access. HELP please

new plugs, muzzle it, clear the code, put a bottle of techron in half a tank of gas.
drive it hard when getting on the highway.
That's exactly what I did! Just waiting for vcmtunerII to not be on backorder! Thank u

@bresodyssey , I'm just glad you're not a UFO alien infiltrator trying to wrest the "secrets" of Odyclub away from us.

We're kind of like the Knights Templar, sworn to an oath to uphold the precepts of "Odydom" (like a Kingdom, but different ...)

Anyways, I'm just glad that now I don't have to worry about being abducted by aliens and can now drive deserted off-highway roads at night in my Odyssey without aliens thinking it might be a pickup truck with a missing spark plug (if the reference to this is unclear, just see that The Kids in the Hall comedy sketch I posted in post #55 above ... I'm the first non-alien guy in the sketch, on the gurney, with the missing teeth ... )

😁 😅👍

get on the list...

alternatively you could unplug the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch, which would trigger a harmless check engine light, and would disable the VCM system until your vcmtunerII arrives.
here is the procedure.

you in the GTA?
hopefully you're never going back to that shop...

yea, some of those rural Alberta areas, you wont see much more than a Ferd dealer let alone a Honda dealer.
😐

verbatim sells the vcm muzzlerII and operates out of Edmonton I think.
another option if you don't want to wait.

Cool thank you!
S-VCM also ships from Canada. I've had it for a few years on my Ody.

Damn, I was really messed up as I thought that the hexhead 'block' in the lower 'hole' was what the problem was. .
I just mistakenly jumped to the conclusion that the obvious spark plug in upper hole was NOT the problem since I could easily see it was a spark plug. A clear photo would have been much better along with a description or circle around the problem area.
The good news is that the problem is fixed and that the threads in that spark plug hole are OK.
Just drive it as normal until the muzzler arrives and enjoy it.
And thanks for the excellent update!! :):):)(y)

The aliens told me that thing was a super duper extended reach 5/8" spark plug socket.:eek::eek:

I only believe the "super duper extended reach" part of the scenario ...

P.S. Just found out that the amazing Canuck comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall is on Amazon Prime Video. You know what I'm going to be watching with my newly installed fiber optic internet service.

Update again! Had a gassy smell the past couple days so I checked the torque on the plugs but only the coil in cylinder 2 came out with oil on it and it looks like there's oil down around the spark plug. Any ideas?
Leaking spark plug tube seal on the valve cover.

Clearly you must have squashed one of the aliens while he was in act of stealing VCM Honda tech,
that or your spark plug tube seal is leaking.

That doesn't seem like something I can replace myself 😕 if it was a cylinder at the front I might've been able to.
If you can do the front the rear is the same thing just working by feel.
Funny bunch out here.

Updating again. Inside of my cab still smells like gas only when I start it then goes away after driving for a bit. Took it to a shop and they can't find anything wrong and can't smell anything but multiple people can including myself! They are replacing the cabin filter for free to see if that helps. Any theories? I can't be breathing in gas everyday 😕

Take the free cabin air filter but that won't do anything.

Are you certain the gasoline smell is coming through the vents? The shop may have looked at the fuel lines under the hood (which is where I'd look first, to be honest). The fuel tank and fuel pump assembly are under the second row seats. Maybe a seal is starting to fail under there?

The smell is definitely inside the vehicle and there's no gas leaking out onto the ground. He said my fuel lines were dry? They've had it for almost 2 days so I figured they would check out anywhere that gas goes and have an idea of what to look for. I mentioned the spark plugs and he didn't seem to think it was that.

what year is your Odyssey? 3rd gen had fuel pump recall that caused the fuel smell in cabin.
