Lets say the Ody was not available and you had to buy another minivan. Which would it be?

This time I even included Chrysler! (I think the first poll was run by my subconscious!)

This is a true dilema. I went through this when contemplating a replacement for my '88 Grand Caravan. I just didn't think I could afford a genration II Ody, so what to buy? I was thinking Previa, but it was too wimpy and no driver's side door. The Sienna was too small, and a used one was almost as expensive as the used generation II Ody. I was looking at used DC vans or GM (no Windstar) when Honda came out with the 5.9% financing on Certified cars. I decided to pay longer than I wanted too so I could get the only real minivan choice.

If no Ody existed, I would probably buy a Chrysler under duress, wishing someone would build a reliable van that was truly on par with the Chrysler design. In other words, wishing there was an Ody!

It would have to be as large inside as the Ody, so gulp, I guess one of the Chryslers in the long version. Actually, the '02 Dodges and T&C's I drove before settling on the '02 Ody were pretty decent to drive, except for a shortfall of power even from the 3.8L.

Unfortunately, the Sienna, MPV and Kia are just too small inside for my needs.

but would have also voted for the Vanagon and the T&C if multiple choices were allowed.
Nope, no multiples on this Poll! One choice only! ;)

And who was the pollee who voted for "other" but didn't post what the other was????

Call me crazy but I'm going for the Windstar since I can get it on A-plan. Sienna is too small for me. I'm sure it's better quality than Windstar, but still it's too small.

Honestly, I would go on a search for a used Toyota Previa in excellent condition. The '02 Ody is the first van which I feel exceeds our dearly departed '93 Previa LE, but still doesn't match it in driving feel nor handling, nor in interior room versus exterior footprint size.

Ouch! Abunay Speed!!! Let me just import one of those Owner Stainless Steel Jeepneys from the P.I. with a 2TG or 4AG engine and see what people think of that. Everyone's jaw might just drop. A Jeep with lots of lights and 97.5 Stainless Steel. LOL!

O_D_C and odyssey_97, Great Pics. The owner jeepneys are much different nowadays. The builders have made the whole entire jeepney stainless steel. Too much for me, but many of them there seem to like it. Imagine if we had cars here that were completely stainless steel. Ouch! I would be hating the sun's reflection on my face. ACK!!! :(

Odyssey vs Sienna

In the trade papers, the rivalry always seemed to be between the Odyssey and the Town&Country.

From the (current) results of this poll, it seems that Sienna is the real adversary of the Odyssey (by a wide margin).

Is the Sienna's only (comparative) disadvantage its size?

That is my opinion. If the Sienna was a big as the Ody or Chrysler products, I bet Toyota would be in the same position as Honda! (Few if any on the lot). Our local Toy dealer always has 5 or 10 Siennas on the lot, while the Honda dealer has Zero!

The trade papers determine market niches by size and price, but discriminating buyers like us determine the competition by quality. That's why most of us see Ody and Sienna as the only members of a very small club. :)

Size matters! If the Sienna were bigger the Chrysler's would be a distant third. Then it would be a matter of price and the magic seat. As it is now Ody is first, Chrysler is a distant second and Sienna is right behind the Chrysler, almost a toss up. The flip side of that is if I didn't have 3 kids and didn't need to travel 1000+ miles 2 -3 times every year (once for 10-12 days with all our stuff and Christmas presents) I wouldn't even consider the Chrysler 'cause the size wouldn't be a big deal. You would think that Toyota would have learned from Honda's and Nissan's mistakes! Each of them came out with nice but smaller vans that the Chrysler's ate for lunch in sales.
