Hi, my 2017 Odyssey has P235/65R17 tires as standard. I have a set of identical sized winter tires that Costco changes out every year...but they're getting a bit old. I live in Wisconsin and snow has come early!

My father recently passed away and I inherited his like-new Blizzak WS80 P225/65R17's...10mm narrower.

I'm tempted to bypass my older same width winter tires and put on his like-new narrower tires but not sure if it's a good idea. I've heard slightly narrower might be better for winter traction.

If the narrower tire is not a good idea, I'd put them on Craigslist.

Any advise? Thanks much!

According to TireRack the 225/65R17 is the alternate size for you Ody. The 225/65R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 has a diameter of 28.5", a width of 8.9", mounts on a 17" rim and has 731 revolutions per mile. It weighs 28 lbs, has a max load of 1874 lbs, at a maximum air pressure of 44 psi, a tread depth of 12/32" and should be used on a rim width of 6-8".

To give you a comparison, The 235/65R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 has a diameter of 29.1", a width of 9.4", mounts on a 17" rim and has 717 revolutions per mile. It weighs 30 lbs, has a max load of 1984 lbs, at a maximum air pressure of 44 psi, a tread depth of 12/32" and should be used on a rim width of 6.5-8.5".

It will wear out faster considering the higher revolutions per mile. It will throw off your odometer a bit. And it will give you a somewhat better bite in the snow. Should not hurt anything. But remember that your maximum load is down by 440 lbs, but it is still above the GVWR of your Ody!
