Hi All, can someone please help?

We're looking at an 02 Odyssey with 170k (105000 miles).

This car's VIN isn't on the radar for the tranny recall, but there's a big concern...

Knowing what you know - would you buy another Odyssey with that chance? Would you spend $7k-ish on a van that has better than normal odds for a tranny rebuild?

Check with the owner, see what kind of reciepts he's got on it. See how much knowledge he has about the transmission etc.

If its been well taken care of 7k isn't a bad deal. Though, I could find you a lot less miles for 10k if you don't mind a trip to California and back home.

No, not considering Honda’s poor attitude toward their customers. I read in my owners manual when I bought my 2003 Odyssey new that they wanted you to contact them if you had a problem so they could attempt to solve it without litigation. I tried this and was blown off. I have been car shopping this summer and was considering an Accord or CRV but after seeing how Honda has handled me after I tried to do the right thing I will never buy another Honda and I will inform anyone who I can that Honda is as bad or worse than any company when it comes to denying a problem or looking for an excuse to deny a claim.

I would do it again although mine is older they say the tranny is worse. There's not that many options in this age range IMO, most vans seem to have some issues. Starting around 05 the choices are better for a few brands. If you really like the Ody then have a game plan for if/when the tranny goes South. My plan is I will replace it with an aftermarket rebuilt.
