Hello All,
I have been reading the forums for a little while, and on Saturday, I picked up my new 2002 Odessey EXL-RES. And I'm very excited about it. I figured I would post about my experience.
My wife and I have a 10 month old son, and before Saturday we drove a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. It was a great car, but not as roomy as we would have liked. Expecially once we have another baby, the Pathfinder just won't be big enough. My wife and I started tossing around the idea of a van, and at first we really weren't too excited about the whole prospect.
So we both started doing our Internet research, and pretty easily decided that the only van to consider was the Odessey.
I don't know how I missed the thread about the Silver paint being so flaky. I didn't inspect it that closely at the dealership, and I haven't noticed it yet. I'll have to run out at lunch and look at it closer. Yikes.
I went to several of the on line car buying sites and requested quotes on the Odessey EXL-RES. The way I see it...if I sent in email for the request, that's the way I want to communicate. Most dealerships called me and wanted to talk. Only one guy from one dealership actually responded via email, and of course I bought a car from him.
Milton Martin Honda in Gainesville GA is where we ended up buying our Ody. We paid less than MSRP, and they threw in some options at cost. I haven't done the research on the cost of these items, but it seemed reasonable to me. The 'mudflaps/stripe/protectant package was added in at $388.00.
The deal here was, that I was looking for the Starlight Silver EXL-RES. David Copous at MMH sent me an email and said that he had one on the lot. Some other customer had ordered one, and then changed his mind, and just wanted the EX.
I didn't go with the extended warranty from them. I couldn't remember what the cost was, but I know it was significantly less then their finance guy was wanting to charge me for it.
The whole thing just went so fast. I started thinking about getting an Ody on about Wednesday, and by Saturday evening, I was driving one.
I would HIGHLY recommend working with David Copous at Milton Martin Honda in Gainesville if you are in the market for a new Ody. He was very up-front, very responsive, and was very willing to work out all the details via email, so that there were NO surprises once we got to the dealership. It was a very smooth transaction, and I feel we were treated fairly and with respect.
Normally I do my Honda business at Honda Carland on Alpharetta Highway in Roswell. I don't know what is going on up there, but I was very unimpressed with them for my last several visits. This most recent visit, I inquired about the Odessey and the Insight. The sales guy basically said he had one Ody on the lot, and then told me he didn't know ANYTHING about the insight. Didn't even attempt to show me the Insight. They also didn't make any attempt to figure out how to get me the vehicle I was looking for in the Ody. The attitude I got from these people at Honda Carland was "We can't keep these things on the lot, so we really don't even have to work at all to sell them all day long. You come back when you are ready to buy whatever I happen to have on the lot that day. I'm really not interested in doing all the work that I'll have to do to order you what you want." So I went to Milton Martin, where they were as friendly and personable as you could want. I will be making the trip up there for all my future Honda needs.
Thanks,
Chris Hackett
